The EU and US car industries are not doomed but it will make it more difficult for them to sell to overseas markets with the increased competition that will come from the Chinese.

Truth be told US/EU will face much greater threat from the emerging Chinese aerospace industry as they currently have a captive market all over the world for jet planes and helicopters. It will take a good 10-15 years to materialise though.
