JOHOR BAHRU: Indian youngsters secured a massive victory against Pakistani youngsters by scoring 4-0 in the under-21 Sultan of Johor Cup in Johor Bahru on Wednesday, Sultan Johor Cup reported.
The match, Pakistan’s first defeat in the tournament, strengthened India’s way towards the Sunday’s final.
“It was a great performance from the players and I’m both happy and proud. The players played to instructions, not falling into playing the pace of our opponents in the first half,” said Indian team manager Balajit Sindh Saini, who also coached the team last year.
He added that the win augurs well for the team’s quest to make it to the final.
The match gained speed with Pakistan locking its first goal through a penalty corner by Mohammad Tousiq in the fifth minute but the goal was successfully defended by India’s Hariot Sing.
The match lost its momentum in the second half with the teams keeping themselves to the midfield area.
The victorious team is a win away from the final and will face South Korea in a match on Thursday.
Pakistan is set to play against hosts Malaysia on the same day.
