I have just one question what have you learned from this whole episode of past 3 years that foiled in front of you.
I think 'one take away' from all this is utter refusal of IK to accept defeat. Even his worst enemies would I think agree that IK has iron will and despite 22 years of humiliation and defeats he kept marching forward. He never gave up. I saw a TEdxtalk Karachi by him and he talks how "your only defeated when you accept defeat". That is helluva of thought.
After the 2013 fiasco and the largesse of CPEC landing on Sharif's term I thought it was game over for IK. My feeling was Sharif was going to get even more entrenched and there was no way IK would win in 2018. As IK is now 65 I figured his days would be numbered. But then events too abruopt turn. So to quote IK again "your only defeated when you accept defeat' comes to mind. He never accepted defeat. I saw a BBC report after he fell from that crane - his body looked visibly broken and he was in pain but the fire and indomitable spirit was still there. I guess finally Pakistan has been blessed by a man of incredible strength of character and charisma. You compare him to world leaders and this man will shine. I think we all of Pakistan should be proud. Rest as he says "man tries his best but god gives".
We can be rest assured this guy will give it 100% and let us all hope for Pakistan's sakes we see major changes for the better. Although frankly he has already brought change. He has changed the narrative of Pakistani politics. Corruption, good governance, poverty, health, education, justice are now the top items on any discussion in Pakistan. He has enthused a entire generation of young Pakistani's and nurtured a whole new group of politicians who will mature and play a rule in Pakistan for decades to come. In that sense IK's legacy will play out for decades through the new generation of Pakistani's that he has animated into politics.
And finally a word about perception of Pakistan. IK enjoys immense iconic status in the English speaking world. As English is the medium that influences most of the world IK's status permeates across the world. Meaning as PM of Pakistan the guy will bring enormous positive vibe to the country. From the perspective of the world a country that can give birth to a "Greek god" can't be that bad after all. Even without opening his mouth having IK's image as brand ambassador for Pakistan brings huge positive attribute to Pakistan. And we all know when he opens his mouth he is incredibly articulate and exudes magnetic presence. He will command any interview or speach in the world.
In fact I read a article by Moeed Yousef in Dawn [who works with a US think tank in Washington] that IK needs to be unleashed for week in Washington's media and foreign policy think tanks. By the week is over IK would have made a massive impact in USA and even roll back some of huge Indian propaganda machine that has been slowly planted there by ex-pat Ganga's like that serial Pak basher Fareed Zakaria.
@Oscar posted a image of a screaming jihadi as the image that Pakistan has in the world. Well we are about to get another image of Pakistan across the world - this time of a 'Greek god'. And most of the West and East is actually incredibly vain and most people draw conclusions on the most superficial of things.
Ps. I changed my handle to 'Kaptaan' some time ago when I thought IK was never going to win. It was my tribute to star that I thought was now going to fizzle out. Little did I know it was about to get more brighter then it ever had.
