What's new

Historic day for Pakistan

. . .
I have just one question what have you learned from this whole episode of past 3 years that foiled in front of you.
I think 'one take away' from all this is utter refusal of IK to accept defeat. Even his worst enemies would I think agree that IK has iron will and despite 22 years of humiliation and defeats he kept marching forward. He never gave up. I saw a TEdxtalk Karachi by him and he talks how "your only defeated when you accept defeat". That is helluva of thought.

After the 2013 fiasco and the largesse of CPEC landing on Sharif's term I thought it was game over for IK. My feeling was Sharif was going to get even more entrenched and there was no way IK would win in 2018. As IK is now 65 I figured his days would be numbered. But then events too abruopt turn. So to quote IK again "your only defeated when you accept defeat' comes to mind. He never accepted defeat. I saw a BBC report after he fell from that crane - his body looked visibly broken and he was in pain but the fire and indomitable spirit was still there. I guess finally Pakistan has been blessed by a man of incredible strength of character and charisma. You compare him to world leaders and this man will shine. I think we all of Pakistan should be proud. Rest as he says "man tries his best but god gives".

We can be rest assured this guy will give it 100% and let us all hope for Pakistan's sakes we see major changes for the better. Although frankly he has already brought change. He has changed the narrative of Pakistani politics. Corruption, good governance, poverty, health, education, justice are now the top items on any discussion in Pakistan. He has enthused a entire generation of young Pakistani's and nurtured a whole new group of politicians who will mature and play a rule in Pakistan for decades to come. In that sense IK's legacy will play out for decades through the new generation of Pakistani's that he has animated into politics.

And finally a word about perception of Pakistan. IK enjoys immense iconic status in the English speaking world. As English is the medium that influences most of the world IK's status permeates across the world. Meaning as PM of Pakistan the guy will bring enormous positive vibe to the country. From the perspective of the world a country that can give birth to a "Greek god" can't be that bad after all. Even without opening his mouth having IK's image as brand ambassador for Pakistan brings huge positive attribute to Pakistan. And we all know when he opens his mouth he is incredibly articulate and exudes magnetic presence. He will command any interview or speach in the world.

In fact I read a article by Moeed Yousef in Dawn [who works with a US think tank in Washington] that IK needs to be unleashed for week in Washington's media and foreign policy think tanks. By the week is over IK would have made a massive impact in USA and even roll back some of huge Indian propaganda machine that has been slowly planted there by ex-pat Ganga's like that serial Pak basher Fareed Zakaria.

@Oscar posted a image of a screaming jihadi as the image that Pakistan has in the world. Well we are about to get another image of Pakistan across the world - this time of a 'Greek god'. And most of the West and East is actually incredibly vain and most people draw conclusions on the most superficial of things.

Ps. I changed my handle to 'Kaptaan' some time ago when I thought IK was never going to win. It was my tribute to star that I thought was now going to fizzle out. Little did I know it was about to get more brighter then it ever had.

Felt like a huge burden has been lifted from chest. The order of looters, corrupts, foreign sponsored traitors is uprooted.

Then don't talk about stuff if you don't know the situation regarding the country and its leaders like Imran khan. People said things like way before the elections that there's no way PTI could possibly get a chance at running the country with IK as its prime ministers.. just look at how the ganjas and other crooks are getting jail terms which was previously thought impossible. Changes like you expect don't come by themselves but through people with revolutionary thinking and effort. Imran Khan is such a man.

It's easy to vote for donkeys but don't expect them to lead you anywhere.

I have a bigger stake than you in Pakistan, what goes on in there is my business and I will do whatever I can in my power to influence things for the betterment of the people.

Excuse me, unless you're risking your life by living in Pakistan and paying its taxes and living your life according to its conditions you can never have a bigger stake than me, i've never thought about going abroad after coming to understand how the world sees us Muslims and Pakistanis and i'd rathan live and die by living my life on my own terms and turf no matter what, so correct that first.

This comparison with donkeys shows your incomplete understanding of all the major stakeholders in Pakistan and that not all of them are the same, especially a guy like Imran khan and PTI. Portraying the same doom and gloom that goras do while they sit on their comfy couch knowing shit about the country itself.

Out of curiosity, why Imran Khan seems to be a popular figure among all Pakistani PDFians ? What hoped changes will he bring to Pakistan ? @Indus Pakistan
Well, Vergennes IK is what I would call the first genuine politician or what we call politicians in Western Europe. When we vote in Europe foremost is the basics but that are vital to decent life. Health, education, justice, jobs. That is what IK is about. The basic thrust of his politics is provide jobs to ordinary people, health care, justice, housing and social welfare. Much similiar to what we have in UK or France. Obviously being a Islamic country IK 'dresses' up everything as 'Islamic' and in that sense his party is like Christian Domocrats in EU. It's conservative but with a deep sense of duty to provide the common citizen rights and access to all the things we in EU take as granted. As I said he 'dresses' everything as 'Islamic' but in a Muslim majority country he has to. However do not fall for what his detractors accuse him of. That is a fanatic Islamists etc This guy has lived for almost two decades in UK [1970s to 1990s], went to Oxford University, was a celebrity in the poshest parties in London, counted as mates the high and mighty in England including royalty like Princess Diane, was married to Jemima a daughter of billionaire Anglo-French financier with Jewish roots https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Goldsmith and is now on his third marriage. This is a worldy man. So what do we expact him to do? Go after corruption which has eaten the soul of Pakistan, provide social and economic justice to the ordinary citizen. He is particularly popular amongst the young. His dream is that no Pakistani has to go abroad as migrants but instead people seek to come to Pakistan. Whilst no leader can do everything but I certainly think IK will take the first steps on a long journey. In that sense this is a seminal event.

I know this might sound bluster but Pakistani's are incredbly talented and resourceful people. What was needed was a leader who could leverage that talent. And in IK Pakistan has that. Listen to this interview of IK from few years back.
