Here's what the Kaaba looks like from inside

The structure that stands high in the middle of Makkah’s Masjid Al-Haram is the Holy Kaaba — the most sacred site in Islam. Considered the ‘House of Allah’, Muslims the world over turn towards it when praying. But have you ever wondered what it looks like from inside?

The area, that doesn’t exceed 180 square metres, contains three wooden columns which hold the Kaaba’s ceiling.

Sun will align directly over Kaaba today

Over 1,350 years old, each of the dark brown columns have a perimeter of around 150 centimetres with a 44 centimetre diameter. Each column has a squared wooden base. Between the three columns is a pillar from which the Kaaba’s gifts are suspended.

This pillar passes through all the columns and its sides extend to the northern and southern walls. Here we look at what the Kaaba looks like from inside.

. . . . .
That looks amazing.

Is anyone allowed to go inside there?
Technically everyone is allowed to enter Kaba but since we have 160,000,000,0 Muslims in the world, it may be hard to fulfil desire of everyone so they usually allow head of states and special representatives a part from the cleaners etc

That's fair enough.

It looks really nice inside there.

. . . .

Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ishmail (PBUTA) built Kaaba together. A plain and clean Kaaba that is idols-free. Third-party like idols came later as one man who traveled in other places where he was mesmerized by the designs of idols, and brought them to Kaaba as decoration. Then knowledge disappeared, and then decoration became worship symbol. It is not first time that has happened, and it won't be last unfortunately.

You are right, the place is originally built by Prophet Ibrahim.

"And remember Ibrahim and Ishmael raised the foundations of the House (With this prayer): "Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us: For Thou art the All-Hearing, the All-knowing."

— Quran, Chapter 2 (Al Bakarah) verse 127[26]

Hard to know what is true but most likely idols were already there from beginning. Kaaba was pagan temple and pilgrimage for pre Islam Arabia.
Was Kaaba ever used as mosque?

There was no Kaaba before Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ishmail (PBUTA). Heck, there was no Arab tribes existed in the Mecca. It was barren land. Then, the old barren [yes, old barren wife] wife of Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) was blessed with baby Prophet Isaac (PBUH), and no longer needed Prophet Ishmail (PBUH) and his biological mother Hagar who married Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) upon the request of his barren wife who could not conceive child before and desperate for the child.

Then Prophet Ishmail (PBUH) and his biological mother traveled to Makka, barren land with no population and no sign of water. Then, in desperation his mother went to search for water, a little water streamed right in front of Prophet Ishmail (PBUH) beneath his leg as he moved [with his leg], and the water stream was called Zam Zam.

Because of water, people started coming. Then as grown Prophet Ishmail (PBUH) with Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) who visited his son built Makka together. A plain and clean Makka [not the one we see today]. No idols and no fancy decoration. Through them, Ishmailites [sect of religion-alike] was born who promoted Monotheism religion and Monotheism practice.

Years later, many tribes joined Makka, and one man bought idols for decoration as i mentioned above, knowledge disappeared along the way. According to Islamic scriptures [Authentic hadiths], Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) prayed for leader who could cleanse the filth of Kaaba [filled with idols]. Then Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born, from his generation, his family lineage, his Ishmailities tribes who practiced Monotheism.

Makka was built by Monotheism lovers aka Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ishmail (PBUTA) in the barren land no sign of civilization. Civilizations came later as many tribes mingled including the one with idols worshipers. It is on the historical record.

Two things happened; Water and Makka with the family of Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH), and revived by the family lineage traced to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from Ishmailites tribes. It was always family business who adopted and practiced Monotheism. Without them, there would be no civilization to begin with, never mind certain tribes with third-party religions that hijacked Makka - started as decoration became religious symbol.

What starts as Monotheism, later hijack Monotheism to Polytheism. Take prime example of Bhagvad Gita. Even today, you won't find example of endorsing idols worship in the Holy Scripture of Bhagvad Gita. Its religion is pure Monotheism, but the culture that started as Monotheism became Polytheism filled with idols and decoration and whatnot.
