Is your union so weak that allowing a plebiscite in disputed territory, as agreed upon by the UN, India & Pakistan, to let the Kashmiris determine which State they want to be a part of will break apart the rest of India which isn’t disputed territory?

The Canadians did it with Quebec, the British with Scotland. Nothing happened to their unions.

First Indian State doesn't care about UN resolutions, second Canada and Britain cannot be compared with india neither countries are diverse as india and both of these countries do not share the history of partition and its subsequent impacts.
And when i say Union i mean Indian state it has no incentive to give up Kashmir it only set a bad precedent and has nothing to gain.

All that killings, rapes and disappearance began only after 1989 when militancy broke out.

Otherwise Kashmiris were free to lead normal life and become prosperous. They could become doctors, engineers, IAS officers, industrialists, scientists, film-makers, sportsmen, pilots, sailors, astronauts etc. Who was stopping them?

Kashmir never had a normal life. They were SLAVE-DOCTORS, engineers, etc. Kashmir was always treated as a slave colony because of its proximity with Pakistan. The excess military curfews, policing and extra-judicial facist killings are on record. Both pre and post Buran Wani.

a little background; Kashmir is Mecca for the Bhartis. Most poor Indian folks (which are close to a billion) consider Kashmir paradise; The "Heavens" above with lush green mountains and clear blue waters. Most of those poor folk sitting thousands of miles away from the "Heaven" save all their life just to get a glimpse of its natural beauty and save for trips for its Ziaarat in millions and millions of households in India. During the 2016 Kashmir unrest the Indian government was suffering 6000 carore monthly in losses due to the decline of "Tourists" and the Armed Rebellion. Kashmiri's were kept blind from the rest of the world in its past (pre-smartphone era) with access to only state media and india's artificial cultural ministry "Bollywood" leading the charge in brainwashing generations of Kashmiris and keeping them to tow the line - The Indian Government forgot that selling smartphones, LCDs computers and Internet throughout the valley won't help Kashmir become "Prosperous" but show Kashmiri's their actual worth in shape of getting raped killed and blinded by the hand that fed them the notion of "Motherhood" and "Freedom" - The blind eyes and raped women weren't fiction; they traveled from one village to another by word of mouth and ultimately became their own destiny once the Rebellion grew stronger.

These aren't the old Kashmiri's they're a different generation. If kashmir falls from the grip of Bharat (Godwilling) and secedes from india; the Heavens WILL fall for bharatis. Say goodbye to the Mecca because personally I'm expecting crimea 2.0 before 2025. Goodluck with that OP!

The Indian State was the one that took the dispute to the UN and agree to implement the UNSC resolutions multiple times.

There is no bad precedent to be set by resolving a territorial dispute by resorting to the wishes of the people in accordance with UNSC Resolutions that the Indian State agreed to implement multiple times in the past.

There will never be peace until ALL parties involved in the conflict are happy.
India will never accept “giving up” on its part of Kashmir nor will Pakistan. One way or the other, the aggrieved party will find a way to needle the other.
Kashmir is landlocked and has to depend on one or the other for its supplies, not to forget by virtue of its geography will always have to be subservient to India or Pak. That’s a fact.
They say when elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers. Unfortunately, Kashmiris are grass here and their wishes will have to be the sacrificial lamb for the greater good of the region.

Hence, turn the LOC into the border. India is happy, Pakistan has an important part of Kashmir that prevents India from access to CAS and Afg. Indian kashmir has strategic water sources. Both come out with something. Make the covenants of the IWT iron clad. There should at least be some peace for 1.6 billion (India + Pak population).
