Well, there are 2 types of people during pandemic., 1) ones who lived from hand to mouth 2) ones who were lucky enough to save some money.

In my case, it's the third year for me without any holidays/vacations abroad and I also avoided dining out during this time.
Now, I have quite a bit of savings. So much so that I can buy a new 2.0L car.

So, what about you? Lucky or unlucky? In what ways you saved some money? No need to provide an actual figure.

i probably saved on fuel by sitting at home due to bad weather n lock down but everything gone up in price over here food, electric, water, and fuel very expensive.

Yes. Alhamdulillah I did. I have made a habit of putting money aside from my salary. If I can do it with two daughters and a wife a single person should easily be able to do it.

i have not traveled but my saving mode is same as before covid . i must say i lost a small chunk because of covid . something like 5-10 lakhs . i am in lucky group whom not affected from covid . i have taken one month vacation but i never traveled abroad like before . i think travel in this mess is stupidity if its pure tourism . i have saved allot of money in last 2 years . almost same as before covid .

During covid I moved into a new house, lost my job, got a new job and we had a close family wedding.

So I spent everything I earned. Only started saving this month.

Saving... what saving?

No income coming becausing we had to stop as no labour was available for planting; we did what we could.

Cost of diesel went up; supply chain issues to get fertilizer.

However - my neck of the wood made huge monies with moonshine brew as all liquor sales were shut.

Yes as no outside food, no daily commuting, not much travel/vacations. Although from time to time had to work very long hours at home, many times even on weekends also to avoid constant threat of layoff hanging overhead since the pandemic began due to which my health has also suffered a little.

I purchased an almost new car in April 2021. Its a Mercedes gle 3 litre with very little milage.
I took it in to mercedes for a service in October and they offered me £7000 above my purchase price on April 30th.
Wooow. But ofcourse I like the car so I kept it

Here are just a few noticeable ones (other than the usual vacations and dining at restaurants)

Working from home since March 9th 2020 (~22 months):

Didn't spend money taking the bus/subway ($90/mo pass) in 2 years (~$2000).
Didn't spend $7-$15 buying lunch each day at work (~$4800).
Didn't spend money on dress shirt replacements ($200).

That's $7,000 just for 3 items.

Sure maybe my electricity bill went up and I still have to eat lunch...but the expense was not $7000.

Not to mention the intangibles of missing all the aggravation of a commute with rain/snow/hot/cold days or waiting for buses/trains that are late.

working from home for over a year and not going out to public places except visiting family

1- no take away (all home cooked)
2- no driving around
3-no travelling
4-no gifts for Eid
...etc

resulted in me paying off all the debt i had AND buying two cars cash :D the denali and the hellcat redeye, both 2021 models

My Boss.

He's been buying new audi's while crying rivers in front of us and holding off our annual increments, twice now.
