Gripen for Bangladesh?

. .
Yeah, I remember now.
Wrong aircraft for Sri Lanka though.
Indeed. Their requirement is low cost and has to been use for Navy also..

Island nation cant afford to have a separate air crafts for other services..

.
Actually Jaguar too is a good option for BD.
Pray that India doesn't get the French Jaguars and buy them for low altitude raids in Myanmar.
Lost out on the Malaysian Mig 29 since they'll certainly do the deal with India. Could've strengthened the existing fleet.

These kinda deals should've been done until the economy significantly improves.
Then go for fancy items.

. . . .
The Russians are messing around with BD over SU-30SME and the contract still has not been signed.

It is time that BD considered the Gripen E. Below are the pros and cons as far as I can see:

Pros:

1. Excellent network-centric warfare.
2. Superb British designed UK AESA radar.
3. Brilliant European Meteor BVRAAM.
4. Relatively Low upfront cost(~60 million unit cost) and low operational and maintenance costs.

Cons:

1. Engine is US and so not sure if US will clear it for BD without unacceptable conditions( Sonadia base for US Navy?)
2. Sweden has a policy of no resupply for countries at war.

'The Gripen E ensures that Gripen as a brand keeps going against the Rafale, Typhoon and F-35,' said Francis Tusa, editor of Defence Analysis.

Selling for about $85 million excluding arms, the Gripen E is slightly cheaper than Rafale or Typhoon and significantly cheaper than the single-engined F-35, which is marketed for stealth, he added.

The best option for BAF would be a combination of single engine as well as twin engine aircraft.

For maritime strikes and offensive operations to strike deep into enemy territory, we need twin engine aircraft that come with longer ranges.

Gripen is a fantastic bird, but I think it would be quite costly to replace the F7s by this one.

Also, we should not repeat the same mistake as we did with the Mig 29s, there must be provisions for building necessary infrastructure to ensure their maintenance locally. No matter which aircraft we go for.
We should not eat any pie until the legendary evaluation era is over for BAF.This glorious era is running for at least 7 years and counting. When BAF brought 16 F-7BGI in 2011, it was said to be a stopgap measure until 4.5 generation aircraft is procured. Now it seems BAF will need another set of stopgap aircraft for aging stopgap F-7BGI.

Remember these BD STRONK ppl celebrating 100 pages of deal accomplished+celebration on SU-30/JF-17/Mig-29/J-10/(INSERT whatever) ....and now its gripen :D...for like not even 1 squadron of aircraft.

f-16 j-10 su-35 rafale and now grippen ?:partay:

Oh right Su-35, F-16, Rafale as well in (INSERT WHATEVER). Soon we will have F-18, Eurofighter, F-5, F-15 too. Hope everyone sticks to their price (given its just a few a/c and no real money or economy of scale/benefit) and BD govt sticks to theirs (being cheap and sucky at anything defense deal related), for this subforum rona drona sake :D

Nah they said their country have money to spent on defense matter. Though its matter of believe

In my personnal opinion they should stick to Mig 29 and derivative like mig 35, and should complete one proper of 4 gen squadron fighter.

. .
Actually i am not much fan of European arms (especially Scandinavian and Brits) , they got much strings attached even compared to USA.
