Is this a harbinger for China?

How can a small section of the Great Wall which cannot withstand the age of time after fulfilling its duties guarding our Country gallantly for thousands of years lead to the fate of a Great nation? You pessimism is deep into your bones worrying too much about the gloomy outlook of your country.

So it is not a bad omen?

Mainlanders are not good at protection of historical sites.

Well no man made structures last forever. Time and mother nature usually do their works well. In this case, no big deal, since many sections of the wall are not original anyway and can always rebuild.
Pyramids still are better when compared to GWC .

. . .
Hey people, it is just a very small section of the Great Wall collapse, not the entire wall, so it is not a big deal. Today the Great Wall has many sections that had been badly damage or destroyed due to war or natural disasters and remain that way.

.
AFter another 2000 years the wow factor would return. If any section is being rebuilt it should be rebuilt properly/better rather than scoop up the rubble just for the sake of nostalgia.
Reasonable enough. We can say that the since the repaired section is a part of the main, the modern day re-creation does not take away or even detract from the historical and archeological value of the main.

By the way, I have the ax that young George Washington used when he was a boy farmer. It is the genuine article with the head and the handle replaced.

The wall has been built by many different Chinese epochs.

Its only fitting that this one also adds its bit.

Sad.

That's probably the oldest relic of your civilization.

My opinion -- Let it go. This collapse was not caused by a war. The earth does move, no matter how minute. Weather will exact its toll on anything man and nature made. And this was not caused by vandalism, unless we want to count Mother Nature and Father Time as the criminals. This section stood for a couple thousands yrs. It is a testament to man's capability in general and to the Chinese in particular. If its collapse was caused by neither war nor vandalism, then take it as a sign that its time has come. No one is going to discredit the Chinese for it.

The Great wall is truly a magnificient piece of work.

Everything pales in its comparison, more so when one thinks of the vision it must have taken to make it and the effort to construct it.

Here are some pics of my last visit to the Great Wall.

The Great Wall is a harbinger in the sense that China is a nation of mega-engineering projects.

Today's Great Wall is the world's-largest Three Gorges Dam that produces as much electricity as 21 Hoover Dams.

----------

Three Gorges Dam generates the electricity of 21 Hoover Dams

While the 3 Gorges Dam is an absolutely amazing engineering feat, you do know that it was very bad environmentally right? CPC should instead have put in a series of smaller dams...would have been a much better thing to do, even if the electricity generated would have been lesser.

I hate backseat drivers like you.

China decides how many and how large the dams it should build. Not inexperienced and clueless numbskulls like you.
