Contrary to the tall claims of government to resolve power crisis, it has released funds for a single power project out of 43 during the first five months (July-November) of the ongoing financial year 2011-12, it has learnt on Monday.

According to documents of the Planning Commission of Pakistan, the government has released funds only for one of the mega projects “Construction of Diamer Bhasha Dam project land acquisition (4500MW)”, among total 43 developmental projects set for the current fiscal years.

However, the government did not release single penny for other 42 power projects.

complete this dam and all ur power woes are out.
may not need other 42, from power point of view.
what's the time frame for this dam ?

The estimated cost of the project, in 2011, was US $12.6 billion with an estimated completion time of 12 years

I dont think so that all problems would be over even after basha ... We need a mix of Coal, Hydro, and Sustainable .. Should decrease dependence on fossil fuels

Glass half full, half empty scanario. At least they released funds for something constructive. Btw, they'd release more if Pak was rolling in cash.

what will be our electric power requirement after 12 years ?
short term projects should also be started with this and they should start projects keeping in mind the future requirements

12 years ?????
By the time it would be completed, the fund requirements would be double the amount in 2011 and the 4500MW that it would produce may not be enough.
$12 billion and 12 years is a huge financial risk. Suppose something happens in between these 12 years and then all the money spent is down the river.
