Bangladesh has strongly protested the release of controversial Hindi film ‘Gunday’.
UNB adds, Bangladeshis across the world, mostly youths, reacted sharply to the Bollywood film ‘Gunday’ after it was found out that the film misrepresented the birth of Bangladesh as a result of an ‘India-Pakistan War’, and undermined Bangladeshis in its storyline.
Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the movie was released in India on February 14.
“The matter has already been taken up officially with the Indian authorities and a strong protest has been conveyed to the Indian side,” said a media note issued by the External Publicity Wing of the Foreign Ministry Affairs here on Sunday.
The government has also expressed its deep sense of hurt and disappointment about clearing of the film by the Central Board of Film Certification, government of India, it said.
It mentioned that the ministry’s attention has been drawn to the media reports and reaction of people particularly in the social networking sites on the Hindi film ‘Gunday’ which has recently been released in India.
The Foreign Ministry and the High Commission of Bangladesh in New Delhi have been working on ascertaining the veracity of the reported derogatory remarks or distortion of historical facts in the film since it came to the notice of the ministry as soon as the film was released, the release said.
Connected and unified through social networks, youths have been pressing Yash Raj Films, one of the most illustrious production houses in the industry, that is behind the film, to remove that part and apologise for tweaking history.
The film also apparently indicates that Bangladeshis were involved in various crimes like arms smuggling, and two young boys from these lands escaped and became vicious criminals.
