TBH, BAL always neglected Sylhet. Just because we have less poverty, that doesn't mean we don't need planned developments!

I miss Saifur Rahman...

Our finance minister is always from Sylhet. AMA Muhith is serving as Finance Minister for 15 years, Saifur Rahman served 10 years. Both of them are from Sylhet city. Even AL's 1996-2001 period finance minister Shah AMS Kibria was from Sunamganj, Sylhet division.I don't think any of them neglected Sylhet. Main problem of Sylhet is lack of private investment in productive sector. Sylhet's large diaspora population are fond of building large palace in the home village and shopping mall and restaurents in Sylhet city, no money is spent which could help the overall economy of Sylhet and create productive jobs. Those unproductive building of palaces, shopping mall and restaurents are very much in excess of needs.I have spend several years in Sylhet and saw first hand these wastage. Whatever good things happened in Sylhet, it is mostly govt. initiative.

Man you took my comment offensively...

Almost every finance minister were, are and I think will be from Sylheti community, we have some of the very well educated people in finance sector. But, where is developments? At least show me a average quality highway pictures from Sylhet!

And about investments from Sylhetis. I think every big Bangladeshi conglomerates does have Sylheti investors. I do agree we waste lot of money on good for nothing things. But, which moneymaker doesn't?

Only Saifur Rahman was powerful enough and acting for developments in Sylhet. Every good thing happened in Sylhet because of his influence...

I would agree with the Saifur Rahman comment. Almost all the major infrastructure in Syhet region was built during Saifur Rahman's tenure. Muhit gave a lot of lip service but no major development of infrastructure were delivered in last 10 years.

The 4 lane highway project has became a distant dream, double track railway with Dhaka-Chittagong is a far cry now. Without these infrastructure no major industrial investment will come to this region.

True potential of Sylhet's tourism is still untapped. Local political laziness has rather contributed in destroying it's natural beauty by shutting eye on stone, sand mafia.

Overall, last ten years were a disappointment for Sylhetis. Muhit is vastly to be blamed for this situation.

Dhaka to Sylhet 4 lane highway will be built by BD own resources now due to Chinese attempt at bribery.
I am from Sylhet and so would also like a dual track railway line as well to Dhaka.
