Govt grants citizenship to 4300 refugees from Pak, Afghanistan - The Hindu

There are around two lakh Hindu and Sikh refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan currently living in India.

As a first step towards granting Indian nationality to nearly two lakh refugees from neighbouring countries, around 4,300 Hindus and Sikhs from Pakistan and Afghanistan have been given citizenship in one year.

The citizenship to these refugees have been given at the initiative of Home Minister Rajnath Singh following BJP’s declared policy that India is a “natural home for persecuted Hindus” who will be welcome to seek refuge.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had, during the Lok Sabha election campaign, said that Pakistani and Bangladeshi Hindu refugees will be treated like any other Indian citizen.

There are around two lakh Hindu and Sikh refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan currently living in India.

Since May 2014, nearly 19,000 refugees have been given long-term visas in Madhya Pradesh. Around 11,000 long-term visas were given in Rajasthan and 4,000 long-term visas were given in Gujarat, official sources said.

In April, the Home Ministry had rolled out an online system for submission of Long Term Visa application and for its processing by various agencies.

The decision has been taken to address the difficulty being faced by Hindu and Sikh minorities of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who come to India with the intention to settle permanently.

There are about 400 Pakistani Hindu refugee settlements in cities like Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Jaipur. Hindu refugees from Bangladesh mostly live in West Bengal and northeastern states.

Sikh refugees mostly live in Punjab, Delhi and Chandigarh.

Good news. Wish them the best. We should also offer the willing purists to emigrate to the Land of the Pure if they wish to.

Excellent step. :enjoy: JNU seculars would be burning now

Awesome. You are most welcome.

No one should stay in a country that they don't feel safe in.

The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh had approved the setting up of a Task Force under the Joint Secretary (Foreigners) to monitor and expedite processing of Citizenship and Long Term Visa (LTV) applications, on September 05, 2014. The Task Force, comprising four Consultants, has since held interactive sessions in a number of cities across the country having concentrations of such people to monitor and expedite grant of Citizenship/LTVs and addressed public grievances.

Since the setting up of the Task Force, the Task Force Special Camps were organized in 26 districts across the country. A total of 1,681 applications for grant of Citizenship and another 1,665 LTV applications were received at the Special Camps upto May, 2015, while Citizenship has been granted to 158 Pakistani nationals and LTVs granted to as many as 3,733 Pakistani nationals during the period.

Reviewing the procedure, the Union Home Minister had granted certain relaxations and ordered for streamlining the procedure for grant of LTV and Citizenship to these minorities and directed the Ministry to expedite the entire process.

The Government of India has also rolled out an online system for submission of the LTV applications by the eligible Pakistani nationals and for its processing by various agencies. Pakistani nationals eligible for LTV can now submit the applications online by logging in the URL indianfrro.gov.in/frro. This enables the applicants to monitor and track their applications and helps in speedy processing of applications. While the manual system of submission of LTV applications will continue along with the online system for a period of 3 months, with effect from August 1, 2015, all applications for LTVs will be received and processed only on the online mode.

Exemptions to minority community nationals from Bangladesh and Pakistan in regularization of their entry and stay in India

The Central Government has decided, on humanitarian considerations, to exempt Bangladeshi and Pakistani nationals belonging to minority communities who have entered into India on or before 31st December, 2014 from the relevant provisions of rules and order made under the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920 and the Foreigners Act, 1946, in respect of their entry and stay in India without such documents or after the expiry of those documents, as the case may be. The Central Government has accordingly issued two notifications in the Official Gazette today under the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920 and the Foreigners Act, 1946.

There are reports that a number of Bangladeshi and Pakistani nationals belonging to minority communities in those countries, such as Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Jains, Parsis and Buddhists, were compelled to seek shelter in India due to religious persecution or fear of religious persecution. They have entered into India either without any valid document including passport/ other travel document or with valid documents but the validity of such document has expired.

The issue of regularization of entry and stay of such Bangladeshi and Pakistani nationals in India has been under consideration of the Central Government.

Assam opposes citizenship to Pak's minorities
Guwahati, Sep 09, 2015, DHNS
The Centre’s decision to provide exemptions to minority community nationals from Bangladesh and Pakistan in regularisation of their entry and stay in India which was declared on Monday has created furore in Assam.

Political parties, pressure groups and civil society are apprehensive that this decision might create more trouble in the state where the settlement of illegal Bangladeshis has been the main political issue for decades. “No one had given the responsibility to Modi to solve the Bangladeshi issue. He himself came to Assam and said he will ensure all illegal migrants are sent out. ” reacted Asom Gana Parishad spokesperson Durgadas Boro.

88 Pakistani Hindu families get 15-day visa extension for stay in India | Zee News

Jaipur: In a short relief for several Pakistani Hindus, the government on Monday gave them a 15-day visa extension for stay in India, claims report.

As per report, 88 Pakistan Hindu families to escape the atrocities committed on them in Pakistan had come to India on pilgrim visa.

The authorities here had given them today's ultimatum to go back to Pakistan.

However, after hearing their plea the government has decided to extend their visa for 15 more days.

These Pakistani nationals have for the past two months been staying here and say that they do not want to go back.

They have been staying in the hutment, Jogiyon-ke-Vas, near Gajroopsagar in the district, the officer said. President of Seemant Lok Sangathan, Ravi Lalwani, had earlier said these people, who belong to Darki in Pakistan, had come on a six-month visa to India issued on April 30 this year.

After visiting Haridwar, they came to Jaisalmer via Delhi and Jodhpur, Lalwani said, adding that this group had applied for extension of their visa.
