Vijayawada: District officials have fast-tracked the process of land transfer to the proposed missile testing centre mooted by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at Gollalamoda village of Nagayalanka mandal in Krishna district.
This decision was taken after Supreme Court gave judgement in favour of the government to set up missile testing centre. District Collector Babu A, conducted a review meeting with revenue and forest officials here on Wednesday and directed them to expedite the land transfer to DRDO. He ordered the officials to arrange compensation to 112 families, who will be losing their land.
It may be noted that the defence ministry’s project in Nagayalanka is pending as an environmentalist filed petition in Supreme Court that the missile testing centre would pose threat to mangroves and rare aquatic species in the region. However, post apex court’s ruling the State government is gearing up to transfer the land to the DRDO for immediate grounding of the project.
