Last I saw there was panic buying of gold in China and other SE Asian countries just last year. China just like India values gold over other precious metals any given day. Yes, modern Chinese have given up their own traditions and taken over to Western ceremonial trappings for weddings and gold does not exactly match with a white wedding gown. Traditional Chinese though still prefer their Red wedding costumes and wear plenty of gold to go with it.
