Girls thrive in single sex schools because they do not have to impress boys, head says

@waz .. this thread needs your input.

I'd agree with this, broadly speaking.
As for boys, having taught in both mixed and single sex schools. I'd say from my observations and analysis of stats, there is a trend leaning towards better attainment for boys, in an all boys school. The best schools in the country for boys are single sex grammars and private schools. Although social class, attitudes to learning to play a part. But the fact remains that mixed schools come far lower on the achievement ladder, even with the previously mentioned characteristics in place.

Boys also tend to respect male teachers more. I remember when I was at school (not long ago) the young female staff just got walked all over.

I agree with that.
If you saw bad things things happening to female teachers then, you should see it now mate. Inner city classrooms are just horrible for female teachers. I have lost count of the amount of times I had to "intervene".
We need a large influx of male teachers. I do the like the idea of ex-servicemen training to become teachers. There have been quite a few vets turning to the profession up North, but not in London sadly. I'm always on the look out.

Didn't happen in my school. There were only a few women teachers but they were of two groups:
1) super hot/gentle and every boy was smitten in gaga land
2) butt ugly but tough as nails

Do send them over for an exchange. :cheesy:

One looked like Cheryl Tiegs and it took a while to talk to her without stuttering on words.

Oh my! I wish she had been my teacher. Anyway, time to organise a visit to the states to discuss teaching practice with our colleagues. Hopefully plenty of Cheryl types among them.

I had to give you a positive rating bro. I grew up loving the all American girl look. Heather Thomas, Heather Locklear, Elizabeth Shue, Debbie Gibson and so on.
