Featured Gilgit Baltistan will be given a provincial status with representation on all constitutional bodies

Great decision.... Also PTI will definitely become very popular in GB and now that GB will be a part of National Assembly their seats will come in handy in 2023.

KPK they pretty much have in the bag due to launching of BRT, SEZs and full health insurance. South Punjab they are definitely increasing their reach by launching the SP secretariat and channeling development funds there. If the Karachi Transformation Plan materializes then PTI might even extend their lead in the city and increase tally from 14 to about 18 seats. I expect them to enter into alliance with GDA and other parties to kill PPP in interior. That just leaves Central Punjab, that is a lost cause. They will vote for PML-N even if Nawaz Sharif comes on live television and says 'haan mein India ka agent hoon'.

If things keep going this way PTI may have to cut off a part of themselves to act as the opposition :partay:

Minister says PM Imran to make formal announcement soon

ISLAMABAD:
The government has decided to elevate Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) to the status of a full-fledged province with all constitutional rights, including its representation in the Senate and the National Assembly, Minister Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Affairs Ali Amin Gandapur said on Wednesday.
Gandapur said that Prime Minister Imran Khan would soon visit the region and make the formal announcement in this regard. He added that Gilgit-Baltistan would be given adequate representation on all constitutional bodies, including the National Assembly and the Senate.
“After consultation with all stakeholders, the federal government has decided in principle to give constitutional rights to Gilgit-Baltistan,” the minister told a delegation of journalists from G-B. “Our government has decided to deliver on the promise it made to the people there.”
However, Gandapur emphasised that after the grant of constitutional rights, the subsidy and tax exemption on wheat given to the region would not be withdrawn. “Until the people there stand on their feet, they will continue to enjoy this facility,” he added.
The minister said that deprivation of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan of 73 years would come to an end. Besides the constitutional rights and the provincial setup, the minister added, important steps were also being taken for the development of the region.

According to the minister, work on the Moqpondass Special Economic Zone would begin under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), while the government takes steps to improve health, tourism, transport and education facilities.
“To provide better healthcare facilities to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, the government will provide MRI and CT scan machines to all District Headquarters Hospitals, while the basic health units (BHUs) to be provided ultrasound machines,” he said.
“Furniture will be provided to all schools. Rest houses will be set up at about 70 places to promote tourism. Loans will be provided to the locals to build huts and guesthouses at tourist destinations,” he said, adding that an agreement had been reached with the National Bank of Pakistan in this regard.
To improve the transport facilities, the minister continued, the government had decided to build a tunnel at the Babusar Top. “This will make the travel to Gilgit-Baltistan via Babusar Top possible throughout the year.”
He said that medical and engineering colleges would be set up in Gilgit-Baltistan, while a minerals policy would be formulated soon. In order to save forests and wildlife, entire Gilgit-Baltistan would be declared as protected area.
Speaking about the upcoming elections in the region, Gandapur said that voting would be held in mid-November. “Elections will be held on time and our preparations are complete,” he said, adding that the distribution of party tickets to the candidates would begin soon.
Responding to a question, Gandapur said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) can enter into an electoral alliance with any local party but not with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). “There is no question of alliance with these two parties,” he added.
Good move but these subsidies and tax exemptions are wrong. GB people are not weak. They can equally compete with the rest of their Pakistani brethren.

That is the only path for solution anyways irrespective of whether you make GB a province or not

Who knows J&K may remain unresolved for yet another 1000 years. Should we alienate a large portion of our population for so long??

.
GB is not part of J&K. Only AJK is disputed territory under Pakistani control.

I see. So according to your illuminated wisdom, Pakistan has avoided annexing Gilgit-Baltistan (formerly Northern Areas) for 73-years because of what exactly?

Oh look, I found the new Pakistani political map. Can you tell where Gilgit-Baltistan is?

Don't alienate them but do this properly. Tell United nations and world that force India to hold referendum. Give them deadline and negotiate with them and tell them that we cannot keep Gilgit Baltistan people away from democracy just because of UN incompetence. And then invite the world and hold referendum. Finally announcing that half dispute is solved and only focus remain on Indian Illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Perfect

Thats a baseball bat up india.
Love this place and its people are fiercely loyal and brave

About bloody time. People of GB snatched independence themselves and then offered to join Pakistan, unlike AJK where we actually had to send in the Pukhtoon tribesmen first and then the military after to liberate it.

.
US and Europe would soon term it a gross act against human rights of of Gilgit--Balti people regardless they come out and celebrate it or not..

You dont know these people they will use their media machine to throw a story every few weeks to keep such an issue alive in peoples memory..and declare it usurpation of rights of Gilgit people who havent been asked if they want to be independent or with a particular country.

The back drop of this decision is the recent vibe of sectarian violence which can hurt GB in a great manner.

Pakistan trying to make LOC a permanent border. If it is made a province, people from other parts of the country will be allowed to settle diluting the provisions of UN resolution. I think it is a good move, they have no chance in hell to capture Indian administrated Kashmir. It'll also safeguard CPEC.

Some people are saying it is the demand of GB. Well then, people of Ladakh and Jammu have been also wanting to join India for a very long time. Now they seem to be happy being union territory of India.

So the dispute now really is Kashmir valley and Pak adminstered Kashmir about 30000 sq kms together, smaller than Indian state of Haryana.
Both India and Pakistan hold about half the territory each. May be we can have a referendum there and divide the land proportionate to the votes. Then make it a permanent border. Problem solved.
