Srinagar, September 18 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the authorities arrested veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani and several other Hurriyet leaders and activists, today, to prevent them from leading the march towards the UN Military Observers Group office in Srinagar.
The police took Syed Ali Gilani into custody when he came out of his residence at Hyderpora in Srinagar to protest against civilian killings in Shopian. Strict restrictions were imposed in Srinagar throughout the day.
The police detained the veteran leader at Humhama police station. People took to the streets in many areas of the city including Hyderpora against the arrests. Democratic Political Moment Chairman, Firdous Ahmad Shah was also arrested during a police raid on his house.Police arrested noted human rights activist, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo along with several other people during a protest demonstration in Srinagar against the authorities failure to bring to book the killers of two Kashmiri martyrs, Irfan Ahmad and Tariq Ahmad from Markandal and Kondabal in Sumbal.
On the other hand, work in all courts across the occupied territory was adversely affected due to the strike, which was given by the High Court Bar Association.
Meanwhile, curfew continued in Shopian town for the 12th day, today. There are reports about protest demonstrations from Islamabad, Kolgam, Pulwama and other areas of southern Kashmir.
Two more Kashmiri youth were martyred by Indian troops during violent military operation in the Goshbug area of Pattan.
APHC Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, JKLF Chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Zafar Akbar Butt, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai and Nayeem Ahmad Khan continued to remain under house arrest, today.
In Geneva, a large number of Kashmiris and representatives of various NGOs from different parts of Switzerland and Europe staged a demonstration outside the United Nations office against the unabated human rights violations by Indian armed forces in occupied Kashmir. The demonstration was organized by Kashmiri leader Altaf Hussain Wani.
