Hello everyone,
I have been working in Uk for 3 years now and have been using a 2013 model Vauxhall corsa but now am thinking of upgrading my car, problem is I don't have the finances to outright buy a new car so what's the better option then.Shall I look for a slightly used car through PCP deals or shall I try to get a car lease?
Would really appreciate anyone's guidance on this.

Leasing is a good option if you aren't putting in a lot of miles. In the US, the average miles offered by the dealer is 7.5 to 10k miles per year which really isn't feasible given the geographical extent of US and if you're commuting significant distance to and from work and to run other errands/vacations etc

Go for a used car with less miles on it but ensure the carfax report doesn't show any red-flags regarding maintenance/servicing/damages etc or else get a loan if you have decent credit score and buy a reliable Honda or Toyota for under 20k quid

Most of the dealers here offer upto 8k miles per year and my credit score isn't too bad,I hardly do more than 5000 miles a year anyways so 8k is like a big hop for me.I have got a car worth 3500 pounds now and am thinking of selling that so that can buy a newer one.

You want a newer car or a nicer car?

For £3k you can get a good condition older Audi A6, A8, BMW 5 and 7 series, and Mercedes S class. 5K is hardly any mileage and is it worth getting into a contract where you'll hardly get anything back?

Bro I've already got a 2013 model car which is 50k driven and worth £3.5k but I'm thinking of changing it as it has started giving trouble, question is whether is it a good idea to get a newer car through lease for less than £200 a month or get one through PCP.

I would do neither. It's burning money for 5k annual mileage.

You've got a Vauxhall, it will give you troubles.

Personally, I would buy a 2nd hand Merc S class diesel for the kind of annual mileage you are doing. These are solid cars if you get it checked thoroughly before buying. 2007 E class is also very good.

My S class is touching 190k miles and still going strong. It's serviced and maintained regularly and no big expenses so far. Done 50k miles in last 2 years alone.

So all depends on you wanting new for more money or nicer older car for less money.

S class is expensive. 190k miles wow, now that's one heck of a car!

Everyone is probably going to hate me for this but here's my idea. If you don't really care about how the car looks and modern tech then buy a used Toyota Avensis. They are cheap for one (probably won't need finance) and they are reliable. They shouldn't have any major problems if you maintain them.

Nope, they are not expensive 2nd hand. I paid less than £3k for mine with 125k miles 4 years ago. Spent a few hundred to fix all known niggles and issues and done 70k in 4 years without any major expense other than tyres.

The 320cdi engine does 300k easily if regularly serviced. I plan to run mine until something big and expensive to repair goes wrong and then buy another S.

Avensis and Passat are both reliable cars. Good mpg.

I’m an exporter of Japanese cars and used to export 10-15 cars every month to England in the 1990s-2000s so much money was made as English people wanted high quality made in Japan cars .

For the last few years the trade to UK has all but dried up as it’s cheaper to lease/ higher purchase a brand new European car from bmw , Mercedes than to buy same model in cash payment .

I have recently sent Toyota Prius and Nissan leafs to uk and hoping it’s a start of something good as diesel is dead it’s not worth to export diesel as demand has died up due to new pollution laws .

Petrol is coming back and hybrid electric is the way to go if you do want to buy new car and pay monthly avoid diesel at all costs .

Check your local authorities stance on there environmental laws regarding diesel but I would avoid .

Where you live in the US? They usually offer 10-15K miles a year. Specifically 10, 12, and 15. Most people in the US opt for 12k.

. . .
Get a VW golf or ford fiesta if you are looking for sports like hatchback.

Bro when i was studying the cheapest car to maintain was VW Golf. go on autotrader and find a car which is owned by elderly they would have maintained it immaculately and driven less.

No they don't, atleast not in the states located in PST & MT but again it varies from dealerships and seasonal/promotional offers. If you want a pretty low price under $180/month for a mid-size sedan, 10k miles is the norm
