German, Indian air forces may have joint exercises soon.

RAF Fairford (Britain) : The German air force is keen on a joint military exercise with India and will discuss the possibility of this when the Indian Air Force (IAF) chief visits Berlin in September.

Luftwaffe chief General Aarne Kreuzinger-Janik said during an interaction on the sidelines of the Royal International Air Tattoo here that Germany was exploring the possibilities of regular joint exercises with the IAF for achieving interoperability.

"We are in talks with Indian Air Force on joint exercises," Kreuzinger-Janik said when IANS pointed out to him that there were no joint military exercises between the Indian and German air forces.

"The IAF chief is visiting Germany in September and I will discuss with him the possibility of holding regular air exercises," he said.

With the present IAF chief, Air Chief Marshal P.V. Naik, retiring this month-end, his successor N.A.K. Browne will get an opportunity to work out the modalities of the air exercises during his German visit in September.

Germany is a partner country along with Britain, Italy and Spain in the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter combat jet project. Germany is the lead country in European consortium EADS' campaign for the India's $10.4 billion tender for 126 combat aircraft for IAF.

India was the partner country at the 2008 Berlin Air Show. Defence Minister A.K. Antony was a guest of his German counterpart when he led a major defence ministry and industry delegation to Berlin.

The two countries also signed a defence cooperation framework in 2006 under which mutual visits by officers, training exchanges, consultations and cooperation take place.

Among the partner countries in the Eurofighter Typhoon project, India has a regular air exercise with only Britain.

The exercise, called Indradhanush, has attracted much attention in the past with the IAF's Sukhoi SU-30 frontline fighter jets being pitted against Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoons.

The IAF also has regular air exercises with the US, French, Russian and Singaporean air forces.

we have already fielded mki's against both eft and rafale- we should field the few upgraded mig 29s that we have recieved to gauge how good they actually are....... A good team will be a mix of mig 29smt, mki and two or three tejas.

I think it will be a while before we see the LCA participating in any joint exercises- the tactics and technology atoll have to be defined and refined by IAF. And AFAIK in recent times the MKI, MIG-27,M2k, BISON have participated in joint exercises and Jaguars separately (Oman).

Although we had engaged EF before but this will also be a better opportunity to gauge EF, as Grmany may break it's electronic silence,which is a norm when exercising with a non ally country.

There are various reasons for this- the primary being as they are both,relatively, small countries with small AFs facing numerically superior AFs (NKorea/ most of Arab world) they have to make up for it by minting a qualitative edge ie better pilot and better AC. So S.Korea operates the most advanced F-15 variant "K" and the Israelis HEAVILY modify their American jets with their own avionics. It is not economical to spend the same amount of time and mown as these smaller AFs do on training their pilots for the 4th LARGEST AF IN THE WORLD. although having said that the IAF's piloting skills have been praised in every overseas exercise they have participated in and it has been noted these impressive skills have been built and neutered through utter isolation during the 1970-2000s and no doubt with institutions like TACDE and AFPTS the IF definelty has some of the best pilots in the world.

no offense brother but Israeli air force has best pilots in the world its not about the size or the aircraft its about the pilot some recruit flying a F-16 blk60 would be shot down by a seasoned Mirage 3 pilot we need to train with Israelis and learn some of there fighter skills and utilize it so we have both quantity and quality

IAF has a rudimentary training program not even using a basic trainer aircraft and some of the trainers produced by HAL like Kiran are obsolete by todays standard we need better trainers and some constructive feed back from Israelis who are good pilots in the air

joint training and joint mock combat air exercises help the AF's participating learn from each other and fix there mistakes

during a joint exercise with French air force it was found that French pilots hooked onto IAF fighter jets radar and could disable it from there we need quality of pilot training aircraft and technology as well as a quantity of the 3 to ensure we are a advanced air force

There was talk that they join the French in the next Garuda exercise which will be held in India, don't think there will be exercises in Germany.
