Another example of how Western society and institutions have launched a secular crusade against Muslims and Islam. Normative Orthodox Islam is now being attacked under the guise of attacking "extremism" etc etc. And they have build up a narrative scapegoating certain islamic schools of though thereby dividing the Muslim comminity. The same tactic is at play in muslim countries as well where the western paid media outlets are dividing muslims. The "war on terror" and "countering violent extremism" is just an euphemism for this secular crusade. Peaceful, non-violent and mainstream organization even if they are a charity are under attack. Funny thing is most salafists are apolitical and advocate peaceful cooperation with those in power. Western governments simply have launched a ideological war against their Muslim citizens.

P.S - Part of the blame also lies on those idiot muslims who were bought into the western narrative that "religious interpretation" and "particular schools of thought" are to be blamed for terrorism and extremism. These idiots forgot that the narrative they are using have been coined by liberal secularists in western capitals and media headquarters and that by using this narrative they are giving credence and value to the Islamophobic chitter chatter and notion that "islam as a religion encourages terrorism". Now you have Donald trump clearly stating what has been the intent of Bush and Obama's administration. Hope these idiot muslims realize that joining the chorus of secular western governments won't cut it for them . What's the difference between people west calls salafists/wahabi and a hanafi, deobandi, maliki, shafi, tabliqi? When it comes to basic issues we all have the same stance and belief. Do you think a hanafi, shafi, deobandi or classical sufi would agree with western liberals/secularists on all the social and moral issues they have a contention with?

German football club release Tunisian player due to his links to a “Salafist” charity

German football club Darmstadt have released Tunisian midfielder Anis Ben-Hatira after facing criticisms over of his links with a Muslim charity, the BBC reports.

Islamic charity Ansaar International has been criticised by the German press due to its “Salafist” links.

German authorities have stated that “almost all” terrorist networks in the country are linked to the Salafi movement.

However, the overwhelming majority of Muslims who subscribe to the Salafi movement are non-violent, and their aim is to revive the Muslim community to return back to the teachings of the first three generations of Islam – known as the “Salaf as-Saliheen”.

German politicians have also criticised Ansaar International.

Peter Beuth, interior minister of the state of Hessen, where Darmstadt is located, said on Tuesday: “You cannot let a professional footballer like Ben-Hatira carry on when he’s in the vicinity of extremist organisations that are being observed by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution.”

Darmstadt’s president said the club felt Ben-Hatira’s involvement with the charity was “wrong”.

“Further co-operation makes no sense,” Rudiger Fritsch added. “We wish Mr Ben-Hatira, who has always behaved impeccably, every success in his future sporting career.”

On Saturday, Darmstadt fans unfurled a banner calling on Ben-Hatira to distance himself from Ansaar International.

The Berlin-born player responded the next day on Facebook, describing the fans’ actions as a “smear campaign”.

Ben-Hatira defended his work with Ansaar, who have projects in occupied Palestinian territories, Somalia, Afghanistan and Syria.

“Anyone who looks at my CV will quickly see that I am socially involved and fight for equal treatment between people of different skin colour, ethnicity or faith,” he wrote.

He added: “Are you not ashamed? Do you really think I’ll let myself be intimidated by that?

“I think the real scandal is that there is now an attempt to sabotage my sports career in Germany.”

He was transfered to Turkish Süper Lig team Gaziantep, found tolerance and safe heaven against racists.

I hope no muslim will ever abuse Turkish tolerance .

Western society also has faultlines.. liberals on one hand and conservatives on other... the conservatives also include hateful atheists... just like i dont use a broad brust to paint all muslims as bearded mad people chanting 'death to apostates, jews and non-muslims... la la la la' you should not think all the west a homogeneous society... agreed the racism and intolerence is back in the west and curretly muslims/islam is the target(just like jews were half century ago)...

Provided the charity is a legit and clean don't see an issue with Charity work.

If there were objections / laws against a charity the player should have been notified to please make a proper decision after knowing the objection. Example if UN resolution against that Charity ratified by 95% of UN bodies

Also the player reserves the right to file a law suit , for breach of his personal privacy
by third parties , where anyone donates charity is a private personal matter

Otherwise don't see an issue , player is paid to play

Nice 1

People in the west are finally waking up to the danger posed by sallafi/wahhabi islam, good to see some nuance and specifics. They shouldn't smear all muslims/islam when it's only the ultra orthodox ones who are the problem.

al qaeda/isis/saudi arabia/boko haram.. all sallafist terror organizations.

Niklas Anelka joined RODA KERKRADE soccer team as manager, but Dutch racists went on the barricades.

I understand your point and empathize with you. There are plenty of good westerners who are tolerant of Muslims and their fundamental practices. But when a huge chunk of westerners are showing rabid hatred towards muslims, then you can't blame someone for saying that that hateful segment is reflective of the western society. Afterall, for the secular liberal world it took only one single terrorist group with dubious origins like ISIS to malign and paint 1400 years of Islamic history, laws, civilization and 1.5 billion Muslims as barbaric , uncivilized and backward. And the funny thing is ISIS is a secular non-islamic bathist lead terrorist group that has hardly anything to do with Islamic Theology or jurisprudence. In contrast, the segment of secular west that is fuming with hate definitely draws their legitimacy and inspiration from western history, colonial legacy and culture. Here popularly elected western leaders who are part of the mainstream secular political system and society are killing muslims by drones & cluster bombs all the while scapegoating their Muslim citizens for political point scoring.

Brother Vast and overwhelming Majority of Muslims regardless of national origin are tolerant people. Turkey does not have a monopoly over that and NO muslim worthy of calling him/her a muslim would abuse that tolerance. :)

You know how much we suffered and suffer from terrorists of all colour.

Yes turkey has and still is going through a lot. But Allah (swt) has given you guys good strong leadership to tackle the problem. Other countries would have crumbled given the problem Turkey is facing. Also you have to note and accept the fact that any Muslim country trying to break free of post-colonial western imposed world order would obviously face tremendous challenges.
