1000 Engines is a huge Order....
But i thought India made locomotives herself?
what happened to that?
Uncle we don't manufacture 4,500 HP locos
2nd even if we did,we cannot make locos better than GE.also GE will export from this facility & help Indian industry grow
Here is what GE is supplying
6000 HP

AC 6000CW model
4500 HP

ES 44AC model (rated at 4400 HP).
For Electric locomotive project, 2 locomotives are proposed
1. 12000 HP Bo-Bo+Bo-Bo (8 axle coupled loco units), for which ALSTOM Prima 2 has reportedly won the competition (Unit cost around INR 27 Crore). The locomotives are for Eastern DFC (Ludhiana Dankuni Section)

2. 9000 HP Co-Co (6 axle) locomotives for Western DFC (JNPT Mumbai to Dadri). For this locomotive Japanese consortium of Hitachi, Kawasaki has won the tender. 200 locos will be produced under this project.

The locomotive is similar to Chinese HxD 3 class locomotive.

12000 HP Locomotives for Indian Railways
@anant_s the HHP trains for the WDFC will be rated at 9000HP but for the EDFC will be 12000HP, what is the explicit reason for the Western freight corridor getting trains 25% less powerful?
I think 150-160 will be made in India. Will the Japanese manufacture them here ?
200 locos of 9000 hp are proposed. out of these 40 will come assembled. rest will be manufactured either from kits or fully at Dankuni (West Bengal)Will the Japanese manufacture them here
Simple reason Eastern Indians & UP walas like to ride on top of trains,so in a way this extra 25% capacity is to carry those people
