  • The Rs4.74 increase will put a burden of Rs60 billion on consumers.
  • The fuel charges adjustment for October 2021 will be charged with the bill of December 2021.
  • The additional amount will be paid by all categories of distribution companies, except for lifeline consumers of all the XWDISCOs.
ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Thursday increased the power tariff by Rs4.74 per unit on account of fuel charges adjustment (FCA) for October 2021.

The FCA for October 2021 will be charged with the bill of December 2021, which will be paid by all consumer categories of distribution companies, except for lifeline customers of all ex-WAPDA distribution companies (XWDISCOs).

The Rs4.74 increase will put a burden of Rs60 billion on consumers, including a 17% GST.

It is pertinent to mention that 10.98 billion units of electricity were sold during October.

“While effecting the fuel adjustment charges, the concerned XWDISCOs shall keep in view and strictly comply with the orders of the courts notwithstanding this order,” the notification read.

Earlier this week, the regulatory authority notified another hike in the price of electricity for Karachi, increasing the rate by Rs3.75 per unit.

The notification said that the latest adjustment in the approved tariff for Karachi has been made on account of the fuel charges' adjustment for September, which would be included in the electricity bills for December.

'Economic murder'
Responding to the development, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said "after an annual increase in electricity prices, the addition of fuel adjustment charges to electricity bills is tantamount to the economic murder of people".

The PPP chairman, lambasting the government, said it had already "looted" billions of rupees from the masses through the electricity bills.

"By acting on the IMF's (International Monetary Fund) directives to increase electricity costs, Imran Khan has turned from a local puppet to an international one," Bilawal said.

Bilawal said that PPP was against the "PTIMF budget since day one" and asked what became of the lofty promises of economic development that the PTI had made.

"Imran Khan is guilty of pushing people into the bog of inflation, we will not forgive him," he said, and announced that the PPP would hold countrywide protests against inflation on December 10.

Bilawal said the series of protests against the government "will now culminate in the ouster of the government".

no one has stopped PTI from installing new feed in tarrif plants and renegotiating these old agreements

these IPPs will never risk expensive int'l arbitration on a case built on deceit

total PTI failure here

.
Thank you nawaz sharif for ipps contracts.

I think PTI lovers should persuade Imran Khan to build new Power Plants or sign new contracts with new IPPs. This is the best time as we have surplus energy generation capacity as opposed to the time when the existing contracts with the IPP's were signed when Pakistan was facing acute shortage of power and needed immediate relief at all cost!

Actually, the incumbent should just cancel all existing IPP contracts and let them proceed for arbitration, it will buy Imran Khan 8-10 years of time by which time Imran Khan would have made Pakistan a financial super power and it would be very easy for us to pay to the IPP's whatever the arbitration deems reasonable!

Or everyone here can be realistic and thank the PML Government for power that we have today, otherwise Imran Khan would be explaining how to save candle's and/or how to extend the use of candles at night!!!

using electricity is luxury now in this country
Solar panel is the option then again need to invest around 3-5 lacs or more per house

Okay than 8.5 years in KPK government, should i mention those 350 dams promised by PTI???

Those who grew up in Pakistan during 90s exactly remember how difficult it was to develop any consensus regarding construction of Kala Bagh or Munda Dams due to severe opposition of Sindhi Nationalists...NZ during his 2nd tenure in 1999 declared the policy of constructing Kala Bagh but was thrown behind bars for whatever reasons...Musharraf with all the time in the world had other priorities and no solid measures were taken to avoid upcoming catastrophic power crises...Zardari became victim of his track record and Judicial activism in 2008-09....NZ in 2013-17 completed acquisition of land for Bhasha dam worth over 200 Billion PKR over the period of four years and was thrown again. The nation became DAM FOOL after collecting CHANDA of 10 Billion PKR in 2018 against requirement of 1600 Billion PKR and we are cursing those IPP contracts.

This is not a game...People have died due to severe load shedding issues across the country for several looonggggg years. In 2013 Pakistan faced 10,000 Mega Watts shortage....Dams take entire decade from scratch into operational shape...What were the options besides IPPs which were meant to cover requirements of Pakistan till 2032 plus to facilitate CPEC projects ? Perhaps aap bhe Foreign country may baith kar Pakistsaniyo ko 10 Saal Bhashan detay to handle Power Shortages.

How many dams pmln or ppp made? ppp can't even provide health card in sindh?

As per 350 small dams that within kpk and how many have been built there was thread within pdf for dams check it out.

and can be found more upon looking.

So dams take entire decade to create so lets just not make one.

No need to go full retard.

The shortage was around 4000-6000 MW in peak consumption and 2000-3000MW during the rest of the months. ( 10000 MW 😂)

It's a simple equation capacity payments alone are more than generation cost 10-12 Rs per unit. ( It is still not been transferred fully to consumers).

Fuel adjustment charge depends on international prices of RLNG and Coal mostly. Should have went for Thar coal instead of imported fuels. ( No commission I guess). Would have saved us entirely from fuel adjustment costs. Not to mention the around $8-10b dollars annual in import of RLNG and coal ( at current international prices in dollars).

The simple fact is China plainly denied any Renegotiation as these IPP's are owned by private companies in China. We tried at all levels from military to government but they did not budge.

Earlier IPP's ( majority local companies) are negotiated.

Those who are defending plmn here should be more than happy to pay, infact the rest of the country should be protesting against them.
