New Delhi: France has pledged support for India's claim to permanent membership at the Security Council. This was conveyed by the French side to the Indian government, official sources said.

They said France has also welcomed India's engagement in the UN peace-keeping operations expressing the view that the world would be less safe without Indian soldiers.

France reaffirmed its commitment to issues of international peace and security, especially counter-terrorism.

France reaffirmed its commitment to issues of international peace and security, especially counter-terrorism. It also registered its opposition to atrocities against humans and destruction of heritage property.

The French support comes as a boost to India's agenda of UN reforms and its ambitions for a place in the UN Security Council.

Counter-terrorism was also discussed in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with President Francois Hollande when he visited France earlier in 2015.

Now a days france is turning towards India..Can anyone tell me why?

I think Russia must do the same thing. Not just with India but with Brazil as well.

AGAIN: all these pledges for support mean NOTHING. India simply does not yet have the financial clout to command the permanent seat. It has some but not sufficient. Each member of the P5 will require a deal in return and India has to carefully weigh if the that price is worth it.

I cannot see any scenario where if and when such expansion takes place, it happening without Germany, Brazil and some sort of African representation included.

. .
Maybe France is ready to give up her place? Then it would make sense.

For the past 15 years I've been hearing some "country X has extended support to India's bid for UNSC membership" and this "country X" is supposedly very powerful and influential. Still no luck.. :cray:
