Fragile State Index 2014

Please note that being a "Fragile State" is NOT the same as a "Failed State."

You are putting Zimbawbae, Ethiopia, pakistan along with India...........:hitwall::crazy::hitwall::crazy::hitwall::crazy:

Ur right India is a shining supa Dupa paws. It deserves to go with the likes of the great democratic state of Liberia. Or the economic powerhouse of Somalia. Or developed country Niger... :)

It does not seem to be accurate or realistic. Done in a haphazard manner. For example Sudan is by comparison much and much more peaceful than Syria nowadays. But then when young girls right out of university in a Western cosmopolis who have never been any place outside the 40 kilometers radius of their downtown hangout clubs, make lists, they would look like this.

That was hilarious- I loved that last sentence.

Take it will a grain of salt as much of it is relative, and based on perception. On any given Sunday it can change.

Take it will a grain of salt as much of it is relative, and based on perception. On any given Sunday it can change.

Not just perception, they describe the Methodology in detail here for this ranking:

The Methodology Behind the Index | The Fund for Peace

Excerpt:

"The FSI is based on The Fund for Peace’s proprietary Conflict Assessment System Tool (CAST) analytical platform. Based on comprehensive social science methodology, data from three primary sources is triangulated and subjected to critical review to obtain final scores for the FSI.

Millions of documents are analyzed every year. By applying highly specialized search parameters, scores are apportioned for every country based on twelve key political, social and economic indicators (which in turn include over 100 sub-indicators) that are the result of years of painstaking expert social science research.

The Fund for Peace’s software performs content analysis on this collected information. Through sophisticated search parameters and algorithms, the CAST software separates the relevant data from the irrelevant. Guided by twelve primary social, economic and political indicators (each split into an average of 14 sub-indicators), the CAST software analyzes the collected information using specialized search terms that flag relevant items. Using various algorithms, this analysis is then converted into a score representing the significance of each of the various pressures for a given country."

Vietnam should be higher, they are about to collapse.

Erm, according this chart, China has the following score:

Demographic Pressures: 7.7 (And for some reason, Japan, which has a demographic score of 4.7, despite Japan has 25% of its population as old people and China only has 9% of its population as old people. Norway is closer to China in term of the percentage of old people at 14% and Norway is given a score of 2.3)

Refugees and IDPs: 5.9 (I am trying to figure what exactly did this criteria got rated. Did it rated by total refugee population? Couldn't be, Germany has more refugee population than China and US has just about the same. German is given a score of 3.3 and US is given a score of 2.4. So, does this mean it is rated by per capita? Again, US is given a much lower score than China despite its has about 3 times more refugee per capita. Sometimes I really can't figure out these people. List of countries by refugee population - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Group Grievance: 8.6 (Eh, we all saw this from a mile away. I mean, how dare China grieve those poor HKers, you know, they should be like US, start a country wide riot of racial hate and then they will be given a score like US, which is...4.5 /sarcasm off)

Human Flight: 4.8 (Not sure how this is calculated.)

Uneven Development: 7.7 (Afghanistan is given a score of 7.5. Which means the site believes Afghanistan is more evenly developed than China. I don't think I need to say more.)
Poverty and Economic Decline: 3.9 (Japan is even a score of 3.6. I think 220% of public debt to GDP means it is doing swimmingly well.)

Legitimacy of the State: 7.9 (Dear Editor, in case you have not noticed. The legitimacy of a government is only decided by the group of people it governs, not someone else.)

Public Services: 6.5 (According to the site, Egypt has a public service of 5.7. You know, after the whole revolution and stuff)

Human Rights: 9.1 (Again, Afghanistan is given a score of 8.3. I guess the improvised explosives are very humane indeed.)

Security Apparatus: 6.2 (not sure what is this one supposed to be)

Factionalized Elites: 7.2 (Japan's score of 2.6 really shows that how you can has a Zaibatsu run government and still have the gullible foreigners eat it up)

External Intervention:
3.5 (Singapore has a score of 2.0. Apparently, there are wonderful people out there believe it is easier to militarily invade China than Singapore.)

To sum it up, I would call the list bullshit.

Funny.Very funny.
World should give some award to the one /organization that create this list.Award for best morons.
Look at the list .Pakistan is wayhigher than the Iraq and Syria:lol:
We know where is the turf of ISIS and God knows the casuality of Syria and Iraq. Both nations are staring for gradual demise of their statehood. But here we have morons that place Pakistan way higher than the Iraq and Syria.

Whatever it Pakistan has good stability than those Levant nations.

And further scrutinization of that lists will ensure possibility of the racist mentality of the guys who tabulate that list.
African nations first then Asian like Pakistan then only Middle east.
Guys your opinion.

.
Syria less fragile than Pakistan...Oh dear oh dear, a country torn in pieces, with each side vying for control. Mali at 36, a nation that would be overrun by Islamist terrorist militia if the French forces leave.

I think the "Fund for Peace", should actually embark upon their own investigative research (going beyond collecting articles), then draw logical prudent conclusions.

This is their method, as to how they ranked states:

The FSI focuses on the indicators of risk and is based on thousands of articles and reports that are processed by our CAST Software from electronically available sources.

:meeting:

Not full proof, then what method is. I just felt there was so much more to do.
