Forgotten History: Okinawa and The Vietnam War

Looks very nice. Many photos of Vietnam remind me of the environment of Southern California - sunny, spacious, subtropical, palm trees everywhere, and mountains not far from beaches. Maybe that's why there's so many Viets in SoCal - it reminds them of their home environment.
yes, that is true. not only southern california, but also the northern. the state has everything one needs: nice beach, weather, tropical, mountains, multi races, multi cultures, liberal political culture. lst but not least high paying jobs. 100,000 vietnamese live alone in san jose. we have chosen the city because it locates near silicon valley, the heart of the US computer industry.

we run daily radio, tv programmes in vietnamese.

I can eat all of that, btw. ;) ;)

You should not take their word as truth.

People write books after they retire. Even GWB did that. So imagine how low the threshold must be.
in the book, Mc Namara regrets deeply what the US had done to Vietnam. a series of miscalculations and strategic mistakes, and lacking knowledge about Vietnam led to the US involvement.

Indeed he is.

Obama will regret supporting ISIS-Nusra after he retires and the blood is already shed.

This is more like a crocodile shedding some tears after pulling the prey into the river and eating it up.

Does not worth much because the new crocodiles will keep repeating what is in their gene.

Do not take these after-retirement self-reflections too seriously.

That is how people are getting cheated easily
Tens of thousands have already died and many are stilll suffering in the aftermath
If McNamara has donated any of his receipts from book sales to the victims of Vietnam that would only be the least thing he could do showing his sincerity

But I dont blame the Vietnamese any more. It is not our directly related business.

Towards the principal invaders of my country, we can see more of like kind or worse people in China. They are living actually among us, That is why the imperialist can fulfill their attempt of rewritting the war crimes history to their favour so easily

I strongly doubt if Japan will ever be freed from American "occupation". Prospect ain't looking good for Okinawans who often have to suffer from US military presence. Pity China wasn't able to prevent Japan from grabbing it. As a tribute state of China the inhabitant on that island were well off

Shouldn't stop you from getting it now eh?

lol, no Obama would not regret, cos he did not support ISIS and nusra, that was a common myth that US support ISIS and Nusra via FSA for one simple facts, ISIS exist even before US invaded Iraq in 2003 and also predate Syrian civil war, but then I guess you dont care, as long as it appears that US is the bad guys here, does not matter if its real or not

back to vietnam war, the prespective is depend on how you see it, Ryukayan is helping the US troop volunteerly, nobody point a gun to their Alison Headrick and drag them all the way from okinawa, they were employed by the US military for duty to support the US troop, its just a job, did they get mistreated? Not gonna lies to you, they did, but so did thousand of selective servicemen, my dad included, problem is, they have been helping the GI since Korean war, wonder why no one talk about it then?

why should China grab it? China never bothered grabbing the island from the past because it was a good tribute state, it was Japan who grabbed it with force (same as how US grabbed Hawaii lol). We know how the people living in Okinawa had suffered the past decades no thanks to US soldiers.

I agree. McNamara's post-retirement reflection is probably a good public stunt with a material return. He did the killing when he was able to and his remorse or whatever is worthless. Well, should be seen as worthless by the victims.

Nonetheless, it is the Vietnamese to decide from which angle to see the US regime.

But I see Okinawans as victim rather than perpetrators. Tokyo government has been using them as a bargaining chip as well as a playground for US men in uniform. The women and underage girls are the worst affected segments of the society. I cannot think of a worse state of being. I still pity for them. And that's an empirical evidence as to what not to allow enemy to do.

some regret, some not. human being. and humans make mistakes. they are not perfect. I can blame them for imperfection, but what is good for if they regret or not? what matters is that remains at the end of the day.

vietnamese people are without prejudice. we see foreigners coming and leaving. when the french troops withdrew from vietnam, they sang the famous chanson on the streets: "Non, je ne regrette rien" (No, I don´t regret anything). that is the french style to say good bye from vietnam and indochina.

A beautiful saying, indeed.
