DHAKA, June 25, 2013 (BSS) - Foreign Secretary Md. Shahidul Haque today left here for Beijing for a five-day visit at the invitation of Chinese Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Liu Zhenmin.
During the visit, Foreign Secretary will lead an inter- ministerial delegation to discuss the gamut of bilateral relations with china, a foreign ministry release said.
The foreign secretary will also pay a courtesy call on Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Foreign Secretary is also expected to meet Chinese commerce minister, who is in-charge of all development assistance to Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh delegation would also visit Hubei and Yunnan provinces to hold meetings and discussions with provincial governors and other high-ranking state and party officials.
During the visit, Foreign Secretary will review the whole gamut of Bangladesh-China bilateral relations.
Particular focus will be to engage with China on emerging issues like connectivity, BCIM (Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar) process, climate change, maritime cooperation, disaster management partnership with the focus to transfer of knowledge and technology.
The purpose is to establish network of linkages to further Bangladesh's interests.
The last time, a delegation from Bangladesh visited china on October 2011 for 10th foreign office consultations.
Senior officials of ERD, ministry of communication, ministry of commerce, board of investment, prime minister's office, armed forces division will accompany Bangladesh foreign secretary during this visit.
Mentioned here that this will be first high level visit from Bangladesh to China since the assumption of new leadership after 18th National Convention of Chinese Communist Party.
With the change of leadership, once in a decade, seems to have a lasting impact on China's conduct of foreign policy as well as their regional and international position on issues of mutual interests.
This visit is expected to be viewed as a warm and friendly gesture from Bangladesh to china and may eventually result in some positive outcomes vis-a-vis Bangladesh's bilateral relations with the china.
