We have lots of potential. We should start offering jobs for research/devolpment military programs. Lots of crafty and creative people amongst us. I see that Saudi Arabia is moving this way, so is Qatar sort of. But Jordan, Egypt and the rest aren't. They prefer to remain traditional. In Jordan it's all about making sure royal family is secure. In Egypt, it's about securing traditional military run system/business. In Saudi Arabia before Salman it was also about royal family but with Salman I can clearly tell he wants to transform the nation. And is taking courageous steps that are out of usual norm. Which is good, it's what we need, drastic change that hits us in face but is good in long run.
The potential is endless brother sadly the lack of competent leaders, wrong priorities, lack of foresight, lack of balls to do what is right (there I said it again), silly infighting, outside meddling, wars, conflicts, lack of solidarity and unity etc. is hindering the enormous potential from being reached.
We need to look past ideology here. Our region and the future is at stake here. We will always bounce back because we have had it worse and the Arab world is eternal in this case until Judgement Day but we should not accept status quo.
I really believe that the fault lies mainly in the way that past and current regimes conduct themselves, the system and mentality it creates. We have discussed this so much but for now I will not criticize the rulers too much as I have liked what King Salman and his regime has been doing so far. At least initiative is being taken.
I really can't phantom this. We as Arabs (individuals) in the diaspora are so close as people. Regardless of sect, nationality, religion etc. I see this everywhere. An Christian Arab would take the back of an Arab Muslim and vice versa.
Yet our leaders, even those that have so few differences (take KSA and Qatar for instance or Syria and Iraq in the past) fail on almost everything and those failures bread a whole generation and a system that is inherited by newer generations who know nothing better. An endless cycle. Our brave minds and sane ones are either in exile, killed, marginalized or in jail.
I rather take initiative and then fail along the way (even several times) if that means that we get our house in order eventually. As painful as it might be and costly.
I feel that Pakistan has similar problems and enormous potential too that cannot be reached due to similar issues.
Now this is why it really gets to me when we have supposedly fellow Muslims, neighbors (Farsis) causing so much trouble in our Arab world when we are at the weakest.
Then outsiders tells us to forget everything and pretend that everything is fine.
This has little if anything to do with sect. It's just used as coal to light the fire sadly.
Now I wonder how the average Palestinian must feel. A conflict that seems endless and then to have fellow Arabs in similar trouble if not more at the moment. No wonder that many of us lose hope.
I thought about creating a forum on Facebook, Twitter or other social media where Arabs could voice their concerns about everything and if it became huge it might get publicity in the media and even be read by the leaders. Covering each country. We live in an era of technology and social media. We see how powerful it is to make political demands. We should use it as much as we can.
But then again, censorship etc. becomes a problem for locals in many Arab countries.
Whenever you think that there is a solution or something useful you get disappointed.
What is going on? How did all this happen? Was our parents generation really this much at fault? I just don't know anymore.
No offense to anyone but to think that our leaders are almost begging foreigners to assist them in Arab affairs would make our ancestors die of shame. The likes of Senegal of all people and countries. We should be the ones out there to help people due to our economic power, resources, number of people, history etc. It's pathetic.
I would want to see an joint Arab army be active in the Muslim world. I would like to see Arab soldiers fighting with Nigerians against Boko Haram for instance. Imagine the brotherhood this could create with Nigeria. So many other examples. I would like to see our soldiers hand in hand with Pakistani soldiers fighting against TTP and other terrorist groups.
I would like if our leaders thought about something else than their own small thrones. That they cared about our Muslim and Arab world, the people etc. Unfortuantely they don't by large outsiders what we see in Syria, Iraq, Libya, Yemen etc. would never have happened.
When this happens we might be able to help others. Now we need to help ourselves before anyone else!
It's sad to see Arabs killing each other due to almost non-existent differences instead of cooperating and helping each other for the betterment of the region as a whole and the Muslim world.
I am quite frankly ashamed with the current condition. We have failed tremendously on the most important thing. Solidarity and unity among our very own people. How can we expect to do favors to foreigners if we treat each other like dirt?
