For first time, Pakistan admits LeT, Jaish are based on its soil

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Wednesday admitted for the first time that internationally proscribed terrorist outfits, such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Muhammed, were operating from within its territory, with foreign minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif calling for tougher action against these groups.

"We should impose restrictions on activities of elements like LeT and JeM so that we can show the global community that we've put our house in order," Asif told Geo News while responding to a BRICS declaration that named several terrorist groups, including the two, as threats to regional security.

Asif said Pakistan could no longer afford to "test" its friends on the issue of terrorism.

"Friends like China should not be tested every time, particularly in the changed (global) scenario," the minister added.
Only a day earlier, the foreign office in Islamabad, as well as defence minister Khurram Dastagir, had rejected the BRICS declaration, saying there were no safe havens for terrorists inside Pakistan.

In fact, the foreign office had said Pakistan was itself a victim of terror. But foreign minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said, "I am not making any political statement.. we cannot afford to shut our eyes on activities of these organisations in our country. If we continue to do that we will always face such embarrassments."

Asif admitted that Pakistan had made mistakes in the past, saying there was no need for the country to participate in the proxy war in Afghanistan during Ziaul Haq's tenure, and later in the war on terror. "There's an urgent need for a clean break from our past. In 1979, Pakistan had made a wrong decision and acted like a proxy for the next decade. After 9/11, we again made a wrong decision and adopted a war, which was never ours. We have suffered uncountable losses of lives and properties in this war," he said.

Asif said Pakistan needed to get rid of its false image. "We've no stakes involved but are only carrying the baggage of our past follies. We cannot correct ourselves as long as we do not accept historical facts," he said.

Don't want to get into good or bad terrorist debate, but acceptance of an issue is first step towards its resolution. Sooner or later every country realizes that these extremists can never do any society any good in long run irrespective of what their present value is for foreign policy.

I Love How Times Of India Twists And Turns Everything to Suit Their Own Needs

Well, so what? nobody cares about LeT and jaish, its india alone which make lot of fuss about it, i dont see world media even reporting this.

I think we should get rid of this Mfk foreign minister as soon as possible if we dont want to be officially labelled as terrorist country, we need excellent diplomat, not politician. if he would have said same about Taliban and Haqqani, it would be breaking news on world media.

the other clown rejected BRICS statement which even didn't addressed Pakistan once, rejected the statement without knowing that Pakistan have banned all the organization mentioned and he is our defense minister..

should also take the notice of constant anti Pakistan propaganda being peddled by DAWN and ET.

are they all doing it unintentionally? i don't think so.

The accession papers says so, as for the people..they can leave if they don't want to stay.

Despite those accession papers IOK is a disputed territory as per UN.

Shove their accession papers where sun doesn't shine instead of using them as a proof in front of us.

Legal status has gone down the drain the day UN declared Kashmir to be disputed territory.
UN resolution does not call Kashmir a disputed territory... It was taken out of Disputes in 2010.... now you can shove that anywhere you like.

UNSC resolution 47, adopted on April 21, 1948, concerns the resolution of the Kashmir Conflict. Conflict being the key word....

According to Shimla Agreement signed between Government of India and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, both the countries agreed on settling their differences by peaceful means through bilateral negotiations.

Pakistan wanted UN to intervene in Kashmir dispute and India always called Kashmir as an internal matter and to be solved bilaterally.According to press statement released by UN on this issue they maintained a position stating they will look into matter if both parties agree to ,but India seeks this matter as an internal one so doesn’t want any third party to interfere.
