Sri Lanka's downfall started when they saw China gifting loans to the elite in the guise of infrastructure. Countries can't recover from that. The elites will run off leaving the country to the dogs. The same will be repeated in some other countries in the neighborhood soon.

This is not likely to happen. China has more leverage over Sri Lanka now than ever before. IMF wants Sri Lanka to negotiate with China for loan deferral before IMF funds will be made available.

Loans didn’t cause this. Corruption and mismanagement did. People took their country back from the corrupt. Only difference is that it was not initiated by west , otherwise western media would be all over it.
