Five American Abrams tanks to be deployed in Lithuania - EN.DELFI

Tuesday, March 10, 2015

Five American Abrams tanks and several dozen other vehicles will be deployed in Lithuania, the Baltic country's Ministry of National Defence confirmed on Monday.

"A company-size unit will be deployed in Lithuania, consisting of one tank squad and two squads of Stryker armored fighting vehicles with combat support units, around 20 vehicles in total, including five Adams tanks," the ministry told BNS.

Just as previous equipment, the new equipment will be stationed at Lithuanian Duke Vaidotas Mechanized Infantry Battalion in Rukla, central Lithuania.

"By ending heavy weaponry for training in Lithuania, the United States is demonstrating its strong commitment to contribute to ensuring security of Lithuania and the Baltic states. This equipment will give Lithuanian troops an opportunity to learn, train and get ready to act within various types of allied units – from infantry to tanks," the ministry's Communication and Public Relations Department said.

The ministry published this information after the largest ever shipment of military equipment from the United States arrived in the port of Riga on Monday as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve.

A new shift of rotating U.S. forces in the Baltic States are arriving in Lithuania for combined training with military personnel of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. Troops of the 2nd Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, U.S. Army, are bringing M1A2 Abrams battle tanks and other heavy and logistic materiel.

“I am absolutely certain that the rotating presence of allied forces in Lithuania is not only a great opportunity for our soldiers to enrich their skills and knowledge to act side by side with our strategic allies through combined training but also a clear message to those who may attempt on the stability and peace in the region and to whom the values we have been cherishing for nearly a quarter of the decade are foreign,” Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas says.

A unit of the size of a company in the U.S. Army with support units, roughly 20 vehicles in total, including five M1A2 Abrams tanks, will be deployed in Lithuania. The incoming shift includes roughly 150 members. They will arrive from their permanent stations at Fort Stewart, Georgia, United States, and at Vilseck, Germany.

Members of the 3rd Squadron, 2d Cavalry Regiment, U.S. Army in Europe, were deployed in Rukla in early January. This is the fifth of the rotating U.S. contingents that have been taking turns in the Baltic States and Poland since spring 2014 as a reassurance to NATO allies of U.S. commitments to collective defence in the light of the aggressive Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

Just previous rotations, the new U.S. shift and their equipment will be deployed at the Duke Vaidotas Mechanised Infantry Battalion of the Mechanised Infantry Brigade in Rukla. The military materiel brought by the new U.S. rotation will allow Lithuanian soldiers to train, learn and be ready to cooperate with all sorts of allied units, from tank to infantry.

Currently the 5th U.S. rotation, i.e. the U.S. Lightning Troop, 3rd Squadron, 2d Cavalry Regiment, are training with Lithuanians in Rukla.

U.S. military are deployed on a rotating basis in the Baltic States and Poland since spring 2014 as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve. The operation led by U.S. European Command is aimed at demonstrating the U.S. commitments and interaction with NATO allies through ensuring security in the region.

5 tanks is nothing but an aggressive attitude. American pour oil onto fire.

:sarcastic:
Yeah, US is showing some strong commitment with those 5 tanks. Lithuania, like Ukraine is falling into the trap. These countries are just rags for US to throw some oil on. To provoke and demonstrate that Russia is a dangerous aggressor. Just how crazy are these idiots to be fooled by American backing to call Russia names?

According to Intefax news some hours back.

15:56
PUTIN: LAST MARCH CRIMEA WAS TURNED INTO FORTRESS FROM SEA AND LAND WITH OVER 40 S-300 SYSTEMS, SOME 20 BUK SYSTEMS AND OTHER HEAVY ARMAMENTS.

Lithuanian armed forces will get trained on these tanks and other heavy weaponaries and in case of any war scenario, United States as well as other Nato member countries can airlift more tanks and other heavy weaponaries within 72 hours.

5 units means a heavy tank platoon, they are, as the article said is for training purpose, the US done this probably a million time with all NATO country, in case of war, you can quickly produce equipment, but it will take you a long time to be proficiency with the hardware, US can pump out 4 abrams per month but you need about 3 months to train 16 crews

The US is not sending thise tank to attack Russia or help fight ukraine..Just inncase of a war in Lithuania, there will be local crew to operate the abrams
