First World War - Finding Pakistan's place in history.

They were soldiers who were used as cannon fodder by a colonial empire busy killing our people through systematic famine at the same time.

Our difference in POVs in this matter is only minimal. My objection was not to this point, but to 'Pakistan being there for a long time'. That is incorrect. That's all.

We have lived here for 9000 years, why does it matter what we call our country today? - Just because Australia was established by the white colonials or Americas were established by the colonials, doesn't mean that their past history is null and void. Its utter nonsense.

Sounds much like sympathy for .. lets say the gestapo.. or a henchman of Spectre. All these people had families as well.
Hehe. Not really. I won't paint everyone with the same brush. The Indian Army was not much used to quell protests and ensure a strict colonial govt. The Indian police was. That should be the one that is notorious. The Army was sparingly used within the country in an active role.

Oh yaara. Off course they were.

Why are you the schekular country person introducing religious $hit at the drop of your pants.

Why?

I am questioning the premise of predecessor states.

Even on 14/ 15 Aug 47 Pakistan did not know where its boundaries stood, how can a nation that wasn't even conceived in the mind back in the 1700's claim lineage to a past when it did not exist or was not thought of then ?

The only answer can be is to stay relevant.

Canon fodder is something that is true for every damned solider even today.

Let's not belittle the immense role of soldiers from our region.

Sometimes one should lay the "colonial" references on the side and appreciate what our guys did to bring peace in the world.

Thank you

Yes, that is a valid point. You can say Pakistanis have lived for centuries but not Pakistan as a State.

It's like an Indian says India existed since time immemorial. While in reality she is a very young country. It had an independent and often fractured existence over most of its history.

True that. I apologize. :)

Regardless, their role was essentially being part of the power that ruled over them. Moreover, being a direct evolution of the EiC's Military wing.. they essentially were part of the same heritage that pitted Indians against one another and slaughtered thousands.

As an admin you should not get personal.

I know what I posted as a reply to your post

Vs.

my reply to another poster.

No it is not a script error.

Sorry to see your explanation.

Duh!

if you want to find the homes and graves of those soldiers from Pothohar in particular and Punjab/KP in general, who fought gallantly in WW-1, where would you go?

Utah state?

Why even post such an ignorant comment?

Why?

Do the tombstones identify them as soldiers for "Pakistan"?

Sure, if brining peace meant ensuring the victory of the powers who then focused on the unjust process by which Israel was created..

Well Americans and Australians have no right to claim the history of America and Australia before their creation because Americans and Australians are descendants of Europeans. They are foreigners. The native Americans and Australians have relation to their past but they are nearly wiped out.

But Pakistanis on the other hand are natives and have all right to relate to all of Pakistan's past predecessor states since we are natives.

That is also true. But evident only in restrospect. At that time the sepoy (officers were all white) knew nothing about the repurcussions. The national identity was also not very strong.

Yes but the people of Pakistan have lived here for over 9000 years.

Of course.

The people who have lived here for thousands of years have been part of many states and empires in their long history, but they became Pakistanis only after 1947.

This is the same logic that the Jews use to lay claim to the land of Israel as their historic land, and it is equally false there too, because Israel came into being only in 1948.
