There is no law regarding how one should fight a war. Please don't argue this non sense that you attacked a disputed territory it won't fly. The law only apply when you take over a no mans land. Yes, then you can invade, conquer or whatever but once there is a force on that land, you can't invade the territory. Then all laws regarding occupation of a land fly through the window and what follows is a war.
