What's new

Finland has started to look Hornet replacement (HX program)

And Finland would not fight a war with Sweden or Germany? Sweden I think would love to invade and annex Finland. In any case, Finland is not even an Indo European country. Only Finland, Estonia, Hungary are not Indo European in Europe.

1) You take this deep racial crap way too seriously.
2) Germany does not have a competent army at the moment. You recall that France, Britain, and Italy were not able to carry out a bombing campaign in Libya for a month without US support? How would Germany (less capable) get at Finland (far more capable than Libya) without support and cooperation from the rest of NATO (which would never happen). Sweden has less of a chance than Germany of success in such a campaign.
3) Russia has a track record of invading Finland. No one else has done so anything close to recently.
4) Russia has a recent track record of "vacationing" in it's neighbors, with the effect of changing the border.

If you had to pick a likely adversary, you *really* think Sweden and Germany are more likely?? Why not roll Nepal into the list of your going to be that wild in your assessments.

5) Buying from the US, France or Britain would be buying from a country with no designs or history, or anything against Finland.

Germany is quite a military powerhouse. All its arms are in house. G36 rifles, Leopard tanks, Typhoon jets, Tiger helicopters, U boat subs, Sachsen warships. If today Germany fights a war with the US for domination, it could give the US a pretty good run for its money.

No need, all you need is lots of SAM systems tipped with the Nokia 3310. Will blow everything out of the sky.

However, if there is still a damned need for an aircraft then the Gripen seems like the natural choice.

1) Everyone does, humanity is racist as a general rule.

2) That being said, the Luftwaffe would have a field day over finland today. They did it before as well. However, Europe is unlikely to turn on each other since they've already been through that phase of history. The operational aspect of many of these armed forces is their lack of on site logistics. Basically, we are the only ones with piles of supplies lying all over the globe and a logistics network to deliver those items to the warfighters that is unmatched.
So your comment is unfair and a little biased, it is not that many of these Euro nations cant fight but that most of them cannot fight for very long since they cant get supplies into the AO.

3) A track record when it had Ukraine.. not anymore and no longer has need to.

4) Neighbours they consider part of their "historic" territory. Basically the bear thinks any territory it held in the past is still its own.

5) Again, designs at what point in time? However, the very presence of Russia means that such designs are not going to be anything beyond supposed wargames. A massive invasion plan for Canada exists in the Pentagon gathering dust for a reason. But it does exist.

Finland buying fighters from Russia would be like Pakistan buying Tejas fighters from India.

lolzz........If you take financial analysis , what fits in, because majority of short listed fighters have american engine.

One important criteria is that the fighter chosen has to be in production and stay in production for years to come after 2021 so Finnish air force can be use that there will upgrades and Finland is not paying them alone... only Lockheed can really promise that.

well i understand our position. But yr not at that level in yr europe? From what i understand the core reason in europe is to stop the flow of communism over capitalism. While here we both r capitalistic nations. And Finland did remain neutral since WW2?

Well, it is not actually

The situation in Europe is not about communism or socialist anymore, and the aggression of Russia stemmed from before Tsar Russia period during Napoleon time and remain fluid ever since.

Many time the Central Europe and over and over again central Europe were in struggle with Russian led Eastern Europe. And as the matter of fact the only period in the last 200 years where Scandinavian country were neutral between East and West Europe is actually during the cold war period. They have war every 20 years from 1800 to 1945...
