I'm just reading this on wiki :"The population of the Philippines increased from 1990 to 2008 by approximately 28 million, a 45% growth in that time frame." It's incredible!!! Why give birth to so many lives if you can't give them a basic life...

Anyway, best wishes. No need to drag disputes into this issue.

Misguided national policies, restrictive economic policies and the Philippine Roman Catholic church still has influence over politics despite that the constitution states there is a separation between Church and State; laws for Family Planning got shot down due to Philippine RCC influence.

That doesn't explain the abandon children. This is a problem mostly in poverty stricken liberal society like Brazil because it is okay to fornicate.

The misguided national policies includes the failure to implement family planning programs and "reproduction" education.

Additional problems include the breakdown of families and the media supporting illegal acts such concubinage, teenage pregnancy, etc. through the means of TV shows in the media.

Street children in the Philippines - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The approximate numbers of street children in the different districts of the Philippines are: Manila (3,266), Quezon (2,867), Caloocan (1,530), and Pasay (1,420). Regional numbers are:

  • Luzon regional totals: 1,557 (highly visible), 22,728 (estimated total)
  • Visayas regional totals: 5,291 (highly visible), 40,860 (estimated total) and
  • Mindanao regional totals: 22,556 (highly visible), 138,328 (estimated total).
Approximately 70% of the children are boys.

Defining Filipino street children
According to the "A Better Life" foundation, there are three different categories of street children:

  • Children on the streets make up approximately 75% of the street children in the Philippines. They work on the streets but do not live there. They generally have a home to return to after working, and some even continue to attend school while working long hours on the streets.
  • Children of the street make their homes on the street. They make up 25%-30% of the street children in the Philippines. They often create a sort of family with their fellow street children. Some of them still have family ties, but do not visit them and some even see these ties as bad.
  • Completely abandoned children have no family ties and are entirely on their own for physical and psychological survival. They make up approximately 5%-10% of the street children in the Philippines.

It is strange that while this news could have been reported a week of two ago, why did this news surface one day before the Pope is bound to Manila?

I know that the Philippines has many flaws and hypocrisy but the revelation of the news a day before the arrival is like a demolition job.

One theory is an attempt to show the reality of the breakdown of society, particularly the breakdown of traditional family values. But considering that sensationalism in Philippine TV shows, instead of showing that it is wrong, they end up "promoting" it in a macabre way. Adding to these is the rising number of TV shows that has this theme where a male has a wife and a secret mistress.

Malays here can have 4 wives, I don't think it's a problem as long you can afford it.

Catholic traditions in the Philippines is somewhat strong. This is the reason why concubinage is illegal in the Philippines. Sadly the said culture is slowly breaking down.

This is why i agree that media somewhat needs regulation and censorship, and to what degree is discussable.

Wow, it's too unfair for female...I thought this happens only in mideast or africa.:cheesy:

It depends on which content should be restricted or not. While I do not adhere to total restriction and censorship, immorality should be at least limited and potentially harmful content like the ones that can destroy family ideals should be outright banned.

Pinoys are not just a nation of maids but also torturers of children. Regime change and agent orange may be the only solution.
