Srinagar: Two jawans have been killed in a fierce encounter that is currently underway between security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district.


The encounter began at around 7:30 am, Thursday, at Kunzer village (earlier reported as Hardushoora village) in Tangmarg town after the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, in a joint operation, cordoned off the area following inputs on presence of at least two militants.

The militants started firing after the security forces cordoned off the village and closed in on the house where they were believed to be hiding.

The security forces have sealed all exit points of the village to ensure the militants do not manage to flee.

While a jawan belonging to the J&K Police's Special Operations Group died during the gunbattle, the other - from the Indian Army – succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

Another jawan of the Army and a civilian also sustained injuries during the exchange of fire. The civilian is reported to be critical.

After killing an Army soldier and one police personnel in Baramulla district in north Kashmir on Thursday, police officials said that the militants broke the cordon and escaped from the gun battle. “The gun battle is over and we are conducting a search operation, and the militants, two or three in number, seems to have escaped from the spot,” Senior Superintendent of Police, Suhail Munawar, told The Hindu.

According to the police, the encounter started at around 8 a.m. in the morning when a joint team of Army’s 29 RR, 52 RR and J&K police's Special Operations Group at Hardshoora are combing in Kunzar area of Baramulla district.

“The attack was based on specific intelligence inputs early in the morning and our joint team established contact with the militants at 7.50 in the morning,” Colonel Brijesh Pandey of the Indian Army said. “In the gunfight, an Army soldier and a policeman of J&K Police counterinsurgency wing were killed. One civilian was also injured in the gunfight.”

The two armed personnel were shifted to Army’s 92 base hospital where they were declared dead.

What baloney? First they say, they covered all exit points and cordoned off the area and yet the militants escaped. What happened to the policy of cordoning off and then using rocket/grenade launchers?

Search operation is going on and you don't know Indian Army will hurt them down , all these attacks are done to not create an atmosphere of peace and harmory. Kashmiris are seeing by themselves how Indian army is helping them because of floods

Three civilians were killed and one wounded in a mine blast in Rajouri area of Jammu district on Saturday.

The area close to the Line of Control is full of explosive mines planted by the Armed forces and have been a regular cause for death and disability among civilians in the regions.

Officials of J&K Police told The Hindu that three civilians were killed and another injured when an explosive device blasted near Saryam village in Nowshera area of Rajouri district.

“It was a mine blast which took the lives of the three people in the morning at around 9 in the morning today,” a police official told The Hindu. “The blast site is close to the LoC and the whole area has always been full of explosive mines.”

The wounded civilian has been shifted to hospital and sources said that he has suffered serious injuries.

Police also said that the slain civilians belonged to Bihar.
