India is bracing to meet with international challenges post-Putin visit and the signing of long term fantabulous deals between India and Russia worth $100 billion which may well be in the region of $125 billion because of inflation.
Several western nations and their allies have complained to the Ministry of External Affairs about the unusually high quantum of business deals in monetary terms reached between India and Russia during the 15th India-Russia annual summit in New Delhi on 11 December.

The complaining nations include the United States and Ukraine. They have questioned India's wisdom in going ahead with boosting business and economic relations with Russia at a time when the West has imposed severe sanctions on Russia for its alleged sins of omission and commission over the recent Ukraine/Crimea crisis.
A key official confirmed to this writer that the Ministry of External Affairs was actually inundated by protests from countries which are tooth and nail opposed to Russia.
Their main concerns are that India has given its go-ahead signal for a vast range of bilateral cooperation projects which are worth $100 billion as reported byFirstpost here.

In a way, the reactions from these foreign countries go to show that the Indian foreign policy is actually being run independently and without fear and favour.
In other words, it means that the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is pursuing a brutally independent foreign policy, much to the consternation of anti-Russia foreign powers who believed that India would not be supporting their arch enemy – Russia –so pro-actively.
The deals signed during Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to India on 11 December may actually go well above the $100 billion mark.
One should not be surprised that the total quantum of deals with Russia, agreed to during Putin's India visit, may even touch $125 billion. Here is how.
As reported by this writer earlier, the two countries had agreed to Russia constructing 12 more nuclear plants in India at the cost of $3 billion apiece or $36 billion in total.
This is a long term deal. The general practice is to sign deal only for two nuclear units at a time. The agreement on Russia building 12 nuclear plants in India is only an in-principal agreement or a sort of a statement of intent.
The actual deals will be signed in future only. And the modus operandi will be signing deals for two nuclear units at a time. This means that India and Russia would have to sew up six such agreements to complete the list of 12 nuclear plants that Russia would be constructing for India in the long term.
It is a time-consuming and intricate process which will inevitably take years for actual agreements to be inked. By the time the two sides get to the fifth or sixth set of agreements (entailing two nuclear plants in each case), the inflation factor would have to be taken into account.
This means that if a nuclear plant's construction requires three billion dollars today, the figure would inevitably have to be revised upwards in view of the inflationary factors.
Therefore, a nuclear plant deal which can be signed at $3 billion today at current exchange rates would become dearer because of inflation years down the line.
Apart from nuclear energy, India and Russia have also agreed in principle to a long-term crude oil exports from Russia to India. Modi and Putin have given their nod to this and Rosneft of Russia has entered into an agreement with Essar, an Indian company, to supply a fixed volume of barrels of oil to India each year for the next year.
At current prices, the Rosneft-Essar deal means a price tag of six billion dollars per year. This means that over the next ten years, Rosneft would be supplying Essar crude oil worth $60 billion.
Add to this the $2 billion potash deal, the $2.1 billion deal that 12 Indian companies dealing in diamonds have signed with Alrosa and the $3 billion helicopter deal under Make-in-India project and you get a figure of over $100 billion.
The $125 billion figure is being quoted by this writer as many of these deals are very long term in nature and by the time these are actually signed the prices may well be jacked up because of inflation.
Nations like the US and Ukraine, who have no love lost for Russia, are understandably aghast at the Indian munificence. They are doing what they can do best under the circumstances – lodge a strong protest with the Indian government which they have done.
The Modi government has taken decisions during Putin's visit in view of the core national interests. This is, and has to be, the ultimate thumb rule for any government that pursues independent foreign policy.
The Modi government is likely to go ahead in implementing every single deal arrived at during the 15th India-Russia annual summit in New Delhi on 11 December without bothering about the nay-sayers from near abroad or far abroad.

What we have with any country is a matter between India and that country. They could have expected backing out by MMS and his Owner. But there's a new sheriff in town, and new policies with him. That set of policies is: ANYTHING that is beneficial for India and her people.

It's business, and no other country is nowhere near the depth of relationship we have with Russia.

Ukraine for sure will make it an issue and even EU but pointing out towards India would be completely wrong . Because already US company ExxonMobil is already drilling in Arctic with Rosneft and India sign these deals after the western country and China has signed deals with Russia.

Ukraine need to understand that India is not its enemy and India is thinking about securing oil for Indians and this is no different the way Ukraine Government is thinking about securing Gas for Ukrainians.

I've looked at the US media and nothing has been reported. It seems the Indian media is blowing it out of proportion.

Modi should tell them to pound sand, because it is not their place to say what to do. Same applies on india as well when it comes to other countries.

As the events are unfolding recently... i guess depth comes from India and relationship comes from Russia.

India isn't the US's friend, that should have been clear from day one. India only cares about business with the US, nothing more. India's long term goals are regional hegemony, which is exactly the opposite of US goals of maintaining the status quo.

If the US lawmakers thought they could replace Pakistan with India, they're fools of the highest degree. India is not about to bend over and betray their long time ally Russia, just because of US pressure; and because of the stupidity of Obama's administration, Pakistan isn't going to join the US either.

Russia's economy is faltering, but because of the failed policies of the US, Russia will survive. That is thanks mainly to China and India, along with their respective close allies.

[Edit]: I should clarify that I'm not fond of Russian government, they're just as bad as the US government.

Well Sir.For us ,national interest is the prime priority. We only care about our interest. In this case Russia offered us 12 reactors and they will obey our new liability law in this deal.Something that US or France cant done so far.And also other advanced technology.
We didnt go for US for new bilateral relations. They came here to energise that relation with a nuke deal.We didnt ask for it.But when they take interest we also encouraged that. After all we should have good relations with all other nations.
But they cant never come nearer to our deep relation with Russia. We knows how they treated us before 2000s and alsi in 1971.
But at the end there is no permanent friends in geopolitics only permanent interests.

US shared concern towards us not reverse. And that was only for one day.

India do have its security needs which are genuine and these security needs are internal and regional. Western companies are offering different sort of offers not only in the nuclear sector but even in defence sector , early it was just Russian defense industry but now Indian forces are acquiring western technology which suits for the Indian Defence Forces.

Western countries are seeing China as a biggest threat and direct threat as Chinese have even become a competitor in all the sectors. The rise of Chinese has even let to the fall of Russia and have hurt Russian industries. Its all about business and in all this India is an important player. India is letting American, Russian and European companies inside India in which these companies in return are earning profits because Indian market is retail market is big and the working class numbers are increasing at a rapid pace.

I expect similar deal with US as well. Only problem is unwillingness from US side to share big ticket items like Carrier, SSNs , Nuke reactors ( abiding Indian Laws ). If western countries dont want us to buy from Russia, they should offer a better deal.

United states has already hinted out that its keen for co production and co development with Indian companies in defense sector and even technology transfers.

Naval guns, mine scattering anti-tank vehicles, unmanned aerial surveillance system, Javelin missiles, and aircraft landing system for carriers and even co-produce the third-generation Javelin ATGMs, and co-develop its fourth-generation version are the items out the that 17 equipments list.

We should not forget that due to Nuclear agreement with United states has opened way for international companies in Nuclear sector and ban was lifted on Uranium imports for India.

President Obama visit to India as Chief guest at Republic Day Parade is not anything small and i am pretty sure that US-India relations will grow even more.

Significantly, names of two US companies Westinghouse and GE-Hitachi have been named in the joint statement which is considered unusual.

“The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to implement fully the US-India civil nuclear cooperation agreement. They established a Contact Group on advancing the implementation of civil nuclear energy cooperation in order to realise early their shared goal of delivering electricity from US-built nuclear power plants in India.

“They looked forward to advancing the dialogue to discuss all implementation issues, including but not limited to administrative issues, liability, technical issues, and licensing to facilitate the establishment of nuclear parks, including power plants with Westinghouse and GE-Hitachi technology,” the statement said.
