Falling at the leader’s feet: Shades of Tamil Nadu in Bangladesh

.
Thing is, many pre-Islamic Arab culture and tradition were also incorporated in the Islamic culture. The Arabs call their father by their 1st name, which is against the tradition in our region. Ulunation by the Arab/Persian women is very normal, but, though our Hindu women do it, Muslim women here do not do it. A monolithic religious tradition cannot be established when the religion spreads to other regions. It varies place to place. Faith is one thing, tradition is another.

Is it true she was molested or raped by Pakistani army officers in 1971 that zig didn't want to accept her? That bangabandhu convinced zia to accept her later on after the war?
Rumors are she wasn't raped or molested...rather stayed there of her own accord. Zia supposedly sent Major Hafiz (who later on went on to become his PS) to get Khaleda...but, she refused to leave Pakistan.

And then of course...Bangabandhu supposedly convinced Zia to take her back saying...if you don't take her, how can I tell thousands of other families to take back their daughters.

But...again...who knows.

So...one thing for sure is...she gave that shit up willingly, please never ever mention her in the same sentence as those poor souls who were savaged by pakistani soldiers against their will.

She wasn't raped or abused...because if she was, this is the longest duration of Stockholm syndrome in the world

What about you? You married? Had to do this before? Relented or consequences? Story please :)

Nah...I would like to marry my current gf in the future so I don't have to give feet touching Salam to my in laws. I saw my sister and other cousins to give feet touching Salam to their in laws when they came to see for the first time. And calling them Abba, Amma is a must

Ediyah is your natural born right. They're compelled to give you ediyah on eid. :P
Yeah..but they don't like giving it out for free. So you gotta convince them by touching their feet. Otherwise they be like "you don't deserve ediyah, so get out you peasant"

What? I didn't understand you. All Ukrainian girls are married?
Yes.

One question to my Bangladeshi brothers, why you trying so hard to follow hindu Indian culture. Islam clearly states to bow down to noone except god

Nah... the kind I like, no hoe loyal and humble.
The unfaithful ones are always single... and then there are the loyal and humble ones whose age are around 16... I'm 21 so this is like pedophilic and makes my conscious despise me.

How about mother and father? You do not like us to pay due respect? How about Ulunation by the Arab women? Is it not a Hindu practice. So, are not the Arab/Persians Hindus? We do not have to follow other nations' tradition. To some guys everything Bangali Muslims do are imported from Hindu culture. No hypocrisy, please !!

.
Yes it is. And Bangladeshi Muslims follows alot of Hindu thing that doesn't contradicts with Islam...:-)

Yes it does. It's haram in Islam. Please do it if you like but do not label it as Islamic.

Falling at the leader’s feet: Shades of Tamil Nadu in Bangladesh

Newly elected Comilla Mayor Monirul Haque Sakku plunging to touch the feet of party chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to get her blessings: Photo: www.bdnews24.com
The practice of politicians falling at the feet of their leaders to secure their “blessings” is common in Hindu India as it is part of the culture of respecting “elders” or “seniors”. In the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, however, the practice assumed ugly forms during the regime of the Late J.Jayalalithaa , when even senior cabinet ministers had to fall at her feet in public view if they were not to be kicked out of office.

There is now evidence that a similar servile culture has crossed the international border into Bangladesh. On Thursday, the recently re-elected Mayor of Comilla City, Monirul Haque Sakku, bent low to touch the feet of Awami League chief and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after he was sworn-in.

Perhaps Monirul Haque was following the traditional Bengali culture in which falling at the feet of elders or superiors is the done thing. But one wonders if that is allowed in Islam in which one bows or worships only Allah and none else. But then Bangladesh’s culture is a colorful and fascinating mixture the Islamic and the Bengali Hindu traditions.

Yes true its unislamic to "show respect" by feet touching the feet of the elderly. This is just one of the the many unsialmic practices the Subcontinent has. The least that can be said about this practice is that its bidah. But Alhamdullilah I can proudly say I never touched the feet of any elders even my parents and managed to establish a truth among by family, friends & relatives by my actions. Insha'Allah with time & more islamic awarness I believe people will come to leave these practices.

One question to my Bangladeshi brothers, why you trying so hard to follow hindu Indian culture. Islam clearly states to bow down to noone except god

Social media is NOT a good place to ask bangladeshi brothers and that's because:

- BD is NOT a monolithic society as far as ideological outlook & religion is concerned. There are Muslims , liberals, secularists, Hindus, Christians etc. Among muslims many are ignorant of their religion. SO you can NOT put a single label on BDs as that would be gross generalization and stereotyping.

- PDF is NOT representative of BD society and the person who replied to you is NOT a spokesmen for 160 million BDs.

- PDF has plnety of athiest and liberal secularist BDs. SO they do NOT care about Islamic principles. NO point asking them.

Yes many BD muslims sadly follow unislamic practices just like many Pakistani & indian Muslims BUT with time & education Insha'Allah this will change.

In Bangladesh we follow our own Bengali culture that doesn't contradicts with Islam... :enjoy:

With all due respect YES it contradicts Islam. Many aspect of what you may label as culture is blatantly unislamic and for a Muslim, culture should be discarded when it clashes with Islam.

You can do & follow whatever you want but may I ask you who gave you the job of being spokesperson for 150 million BD muslims? What you said there is blatant disrespectful and injustice to the millions of those BD muslims who DO NOT follow unislamic cultural practices. Hope you would be more humble and just by NOT trying to speak for a whole nation or society without knowledge.

Well, I didn't labeled anything. I wanted to mean we follow Bengali culture as long as it doesn't conflicts with Islam. That's all...

You also got me wrong here...
