Thread for eye challenges and suggestions. Also add recommendations to who you have had success with in terms of clinics. Let us get folks to assist one another.
Disclaimer: we are not medical specialists - either we have personal challenges or family members who are having.

.
Let me start the topic:
1. Diabetes impact to Eye Sight.

To many diabetes is not just about controlling sugar levels, the impact to vision is very high. One of the most common issues that impacts diabetics is Diabetic Retinopathy. There will be leakages from the blood vessels. If not handled, it can progress to more severe pathological issues which includes blindness.

2. Trauma.

Trauma to the head especially boxing sports and other impact activities can cause retinal tears. This is very very serious. It causes retinal detachment within days that will cause total blindness.

3. Glaucoma

Due to excessive pressure within the eye; there is a control mechanism that moves fluid into the eye but regulation is affected. Excessive pressure puts stress on the optic nerve and if not done on time, it will gradually cause loss of vision.

Ty for this thread. I was born with congenital ptosis on my left eye. Never held me back and I’ve never faced issues.
my eye sight hasn’t been affected due to ptosis thus me never getting surgery, however now ive turned 21, I’m considering getting surgery in London, it costs around £3-5k, if anyone Here knows if it’s worth getting sugery for ptosis (congenital) which clinic would they recommend, in London or uk preferably.

My good friend has same condition since childhood. He travelled to UK as well as Singapore after visiting specialists here as well. They all told him, changes of success are low. If it does not affect, my suggestion is not to do anything.

Remember do no harm.

From what I’ve seen, there’s a 85% chance from the first surgery that the eye lid will be lifted, however it could take more than 2 surgeries.

Please do check. Absolutely if it can improve, it is worth it.

For UK, I know of Moorsfield. That is specific to eye issues; that is supposed to be the best in UK.

Moorsfield is great, however they don’t do ptosis surgery I think, mostly private clinics do ptosis surgeries from what I’ve seen.

Very correct, it is somehow classified here as cosmetic surgery which is silly imo.

Just get good references checked before chosing.

Really silly, nhs only give you free ptosis surgery if your eye sight is being affected by it, otherwise you have to pay for it privately, I’ll be looking more into what clinic is the best for this, I’ll rather pay more money and stay safe than go cheap and risk not getting the best result, since the result will most probably be everlasting.

Check there is a good online forum for eye issues from UK. There are a lot of nurses there. That was long time back when i had complications, i had reached out there. You may want to post there and get local information.

Ty for that link, the website states
Congenital ptosis[2]
Surgical correction usually produces excellent results and amblyopia can be avoided or treated successfully if detected early enough.

though expensive, if it can correct my ptosis, I’ll be definitely within this year get ptosis surgery!
