Exports Of Basmati Rice Up By 5.25%. Pakistan. In First Months Of FY 2018-19

You have rice to vendors who pack and supply to marts. Their product quality was disrupted. India is 7 times more bigger than Pakistan but our exports stand at your 60% in rice few years back this was not the case.
Basmathi rice grows in Punjab area of both countries ,so 7 times bigger won't have any impact ..If vendors at uae sell it as Indian brand then also it will be your rice selling under Indian brand and it's you who will earn by exporting it to uae ..India won't get any export revenue from your rice ..

Strong growth expected in Basmati rice exports in FY19
India Infoline News Service | May 09, 2018 16:26 IST

According to an ICRA note, Indian Basmati rice exports have witnessed a strong revival in the current fiscal with 22% growth in value in 9MFY2018 over the previous fiscal, after having been on the downward trajectory over FY15 to FY17.
Indian Basmati rice exports are expected to post strong growth in FY18 and FY19 on the back of improved demand in the international market, especially from Iran and transference of higher paddy prices over the last two procurement seasons.

According to an ICRA note, Indian Basmati rice exports have witnessed a strong revival in the current fiscal with 22% growth in value in 9MFY18 over the previous fiscal after having been on the downward trajectory over FY15 to FY17.

This buoyant exports growth has been fuelled by a 23% surge in average realizations (Rs64,594/MT in 9MFY18 as against Rs53,985/MT in FY17) and it is estimated that Basmati rice exports may cross Rs26,000cr for FY18 (growth of 20% over last fiscal) and Rs28,000cr for FY19.

The concern, however, is that the export volumes have largely remained stagnant, in line with last few years.

Deepak Jotwani, Assistant Vice President, ICRA, “Historically, Saudi Arabia and Iran have remained the largest importers of Basmati rice from India, accounting for 40-45% share. However, after having remained consistent for many years, Saudi Arabia’s share of Basmati rice imports from India has declined in recent years and stood at ~14% in 7MFY18. This has been largely absorbed by Iran, whose share has surged to 28% in 7MFY18 (as against 18% in FY17) fueling industry growth in the current fiscal. Iran had imposed a temporary ban on imports around August 2017, which was removed in January 2018. While this development is likely to support industry growth in the last quarter of the current fiscal, greater dependence on Iran as a major export destination could spell volatility for the industry.”

For the second year in a row, paddy prices have firmed up by 20-25% in the procurement season of 2017. This price rise is largely attributable to lower (by 10-15%) paddy sowing on the back of a moderate monsoon, and improved demand for Basmati rice in the international market. This increase in paddy price is likely to provide a fillip to Basmati rice prices in FY19. However, sustained uptick in paddy prices over the past two procurement seasons could adversely impact the profitability of industry players in FY19, especially in case of volatility in international demand.

“In the current fiscal, average export realizations have firmed up considerably in 9MFY18 over FY17. Improvement in demand on the back of recent resumption of imports by Iran, along with the higher paddy prices in the recently concluded procurement season, is likely to sustain the average realizations in Q4FY18 as well. As a result, the export value is estimated to grow to around Rs26,000cr in FY18, a growth of 20% over FY17. The momentum percolating to the next fiscal is likely to fuel the industry growth in FY19 as well, wherein ICRA estimates the export value to stand at Rs28,00cr," Jotwani concluded.

So why did India imported $1.27 billion worth of rice then? India is losing the quality war with Pakistan. :)

. . .
India is importing low quality rice to feed its population and exporting high quality then.
Your rice exports are minimal to pakistan in this case.

That's because of public distribution system of India where govt is giving rice at very low price ..for eg in our state Karnataka they provide 5kg/per person/per month at 1rs per kg for below poverty line families through ration card .A family of 5 persons gets 25 kg for only 25 rupees .
Govt call for tenders and award supply order for lowest quoted traders ..These traders buy rice from international markets due low price .

As far as quality is concerned price of Pakistani exported basmathi rice is in your opening article 110 million$ for 212000mt ..which roughly comes around 36000 Indian rupees per mt
Indian exported basmathi price is 64594/ Indian rupees ..almost double ..You can imagine which one is better ..

Nope India is doing this to reserve a higher share of their good quality for export and to keep the price of rice down to compete in export market.

This is part of Indian economical war on Pakistan. If India don't exports it's rice and if high quality goes in domestic consumption the figure India is left with to export is very little where as Pakistan still has more margins to export. In this way India loses it control over Bangladesh which is largest exporter of Indian rice. Bangladesh will then have to develop ties with Pakistan to meet its demand.

Now Pakistan has developed a new average quality basmati with help of China to counter India in south Asia. It will be launched this year. It is a high yield Indian quality matching type and will sell at lower price than India. Our super basmati will dominate west and new will target south Asia.

@zip few days back there was an Iraqi tender opened and Indian quoted price was only $30 higher than Pakistan we got the tender.

In irani tender we quoted higher price for a best quality tender than you and we won that as well.

This price is only for this month the price differs every month. Your current month price is also low.

We got premium quality rice order from Iran worth 20000 tons in April this year and price was $1043 per ton. The order has been completed via road transfer.

Above article it's mentioned that Indian price of 64594/- is avg for recent 9 months .
It may be true that price varies every month but that kind of difference in price only indicates huge quality difference .
