FE Online Report

Country’s merchandise export to China jumped by 17.48 per cent in the last fiscal year (FY17).

Latest statistics, released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), revealed that export to China stood at $949.41 million in FY17 while the amount was $808.14 million in FY16.

According to the EPB disclosure, export to China jumped by four times in eight years.

In FY10, Bangladesh export to China was only $180 million.

China provides a very wide preferential treatment to Bangladeshi products with some zero-tariff access.

The preferential market access contributes significantly to boost the export to China.

Over the years, Bangladeshi exports to China continue to rise without any big disruption.

You see, when the expansion of export itself is only below 2%, export to China expanded by 17%. China is a genuine friend of BD. Without this expansion BD to tal export would have shown negative. I wish the miser Indians would have shown similar trend.

business is business
chinese are no different

I expect exports to China to be around 5 billion US dollars by 2025.
The two countries have very complimentary economies- China can supply hi-tech machinery and arms to BD while BD exports low-end products such as garments to China.

I'd like to know why our export to India fell while exports to China rose.. It's not what one would normally expect. Since we share borders with India from multiple sides, with improving economy it's natural to expect that our export to neighbouring countries will increase.

And yeah while increase of export to China is a goods news, falling exports to India is a concern.

Main reason is Indian selfish and miserable attitude towards the countries, it think can get away doing cheating and deception.I remember an incidence where Indian govt. withdrawn tariff from Bangladeshi Jamdani sari as part of some agreement. But the miser from west bengal created such an hue and cry that their govt. were forced to reinstall that tariff.Although our total Jamdani export in India is no more than a couple of million dollar. They don't have a heart to sacrifice a single penny for the sake of neighbors although they are getting huge benefit from neighboring market.Than how do you do business with such a person or country?

This is totally opposite of what China is doing with us.Our largest import source is China, but they want us to increase our export in Chinese market and want to create a balance of trade with BD.That's why China have withdrawn all the tariff from all Bangladeshi export item in Chinese market.Whose benefit we are getting. Our export in China increased by 4 fold since 2010.Even if we increase it again 10 fold, China will not blink an eye.Because it is nothing compared to their total trade volume and they are generous enough to let other get some benefit. This type of attitude is totally lacking on part of India.India's total trade volume is around 800 billion dollar per year. But they don't have a heart to allow to enter a few million dollar worth of Jamdani Sari or other Bangladeshi item.

You need to get a life, urgently

You need to get a life, urgently

He just mad at low realised consumption of BD about to get lot worse in coming years as ICP downgrades BD PPP multiplier even more.

These two news demonstrate who Is a sincere trade partner of us.

Produce something worth buying from you. Have you looked at BD export basket to India? Its completely unsustainable and volatile goods....thats simply all you can make.....we can make that stuff ourselves for cheaper. We have not moved to the scale of competitive margin buffers like China has in industry/trade/GDP, so why you want India to throw you a bone prematurely?

That's why China have withdrawn all the tariff from all Bangladeshi export item in Chinese market.

Pretty sad you still barely export anything to them.

India's total trade volume is around 800 billion dollar per year. But they don't have a heart to allow to enter a few million dollar worth of Jamdani Sari or other Bangladeshi item.

Keep your Jamdani and whatever other junk to yourself. When we make you take your illegal leeches back, we will consider improving imports from BD then and only then.

China isn't going to be treating you any better than India does if they hosted BD illegals on this scale (verified by UN reports)....no country would.

Any BD visitor goes back to BD (after spending their hard earned coin in India), SHW keeps things under control with the islamists and BD stops crying like a whiney beggar for each and every thing. Its all we ask for, thanks. When you improve your attitude, we will improve ours. We are tired of taking first step for no response...and we are now going to fully work on reversing every privilege we extended to you in the past given we only have SHW for certain amount of time to get it shoved into BD public....thats on you, not us.

There is a big big difference between ethical businessmen(Chinese) and a banya cheater.

Comment of the day - my man. :-)

Beautiful comeback of no substance. Perfect when you have no logical points to argue.

BTW Bangladesh-India trade (mostly one way from India to Bangladesh) is about fifteen billion yearly. This when you're killing our people at the border and flooding our country with millions of Illegal Indian workers.

Only because our shameless govt. is too lazy to put non-tariff barriers in place. But once Chinese goods become more established locally, Indian goods will be displaced by them.

Do you see a logic in his points...
You too need a life

Why do you think BD's export to India dropped? And what measures to take to increase it?
