Islamabad—Removal of bottlenecks has been identified as the key to harmonizing the Afghanistan-Pakistan relations and to end the blame-game hampering the potential of a viable, positively consistent and productive bilateral relationship, in order to install lasting peace in the region, particularly in the backdrop of the developing 2014 scenario.

This was emphasized Thursday here at the seminar on “Shaping the Future of Afghanistan and Pakistan –Policy Recommendations” by a broad spectrum of experts from Germany, Afghanistan and Pakistan including Parliamentarians, diplomats, scholars, politicians, journalists, analysts and others.

“People are looking forward to shape the future,” commented German Ambassador to Pakistan Dr. Cyrill Nunn while appreciating the role being played by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) – organizer of the conference. “We are very pleased to be supportive to KAS which is geared to bring Afghanistan and Pakistan high-level relationship” the ambassador added.

“Time is to make realistic relationship with Afghanistan,” Humayun Saifullah Khan, member of the Pak-Afghan Parliamentary Friendship Group while emphasizing the need of stability on both sides of the border. Saifullah assured that the Pakistani Parliament would consider the policy recommendations made during the conference by eminent experts.

Deans of the Trilateral Summer School: Former Afghan Ambassador and Senator Pir Sayed Hamid Gailani and former Pakistani Ambassador Dr. Ross Masood Husain, made the introductory note to the Project “Shaping the Future of Afghanistan and Pakistan – Policy Recommendations”. The Policy Recommendations for Afghanistan were presented by Syed Moazzam Hashmi while Kawa Baha from Kabul highlighted the policy recommendations for Pakistan.

Afghan parliamentarian Sherwali Wardak stressed, “Everything to deal with terrorism requires improvement in bilateral relations,” Wardak said.

“Since 2007, it is our pleasure and honor to assist improving the bilateral relationship between Kabul and Islamabad” said Dr. Babak Khalatbari Resident Representative of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung – the German foundation in Pakistan.

Realizing the importance of improved bilateral relations for regional stability and the needed development and prosperity of Afghanistan and Pakistan, panelists and policy experts also recommended enhancing border security, and rationalizing the objectivity among the intelligence networks as the key to end the going blame-game between the two brotherly neighboring countries.—INP
