What's happening?

Police are investigating the suspected poisoning of a former Russian spy and his daughter.

Earlier, Home Secretary Amber Rudd said police had more information about the substance.

Speaking after chairing a COBRA meeting, she said: "This is likely to be a lengthy investigation.

"We need to make sure we respond to evidence, not rumour.

"There is a lot of information about him (Mr Skripal) but I am not going to comment further about that."

Good afternoon

Welcome to Sky's rolling coverage of a former Russian spy and his daughter, who are fighting for their lives after a potential "poisoning" in Salisbury on Monday.

.
That's the tragic but a normal end spies meet.

.
He was a former Russian spy, convicted of espionage for providing information to MI6 on other Russian agents in Europe. Served Atleast 13 years jail in Russia and then released in exchange for captured agents by the FBI. Now settled in England, both his daughter and he were found poisoned by a substance - possibly contaminated by something they ate.

CCTV cameras reveal a man and a woman going past the area they were found and are currently wanted. Boris Johnson and British authorities have suspected Moscow. Moscow ofcourse denies the accusations but an intelligence team is currently investigating this and the two individuals are hospitalised fighting for their lives. His family deny espionage charges and strangely people associated with him have had bizzare deaths.

If proven correct, Russia is in big trouble.

But what happened ? Nothing ?:disagree:
All the defectors or double agents have same fate ,

I wish his daughter get well soon, if she isn't really involved in this.:coffee:

THE poisoning of ex-Russian spy Sergei Skripal was an operation by Western secret services to harm Putin’s election campaign, a former KGB agent has claimed.

Master spy Yuri ‘Smiling Mike’ Lyubimov headed the KGB’s UK desk after being thrown out of London in the 1960s for seeking to recruit a female Foreign Office coding clerk.

He rounded on claims that Moscow was behind the Salisbury poisoning of Skripal and his daughter Yulia, and claims Boris Johnson’s reaction to the incident shows it is a plot against Russia.

He said: “It is an absurd to kill a person who had been swapped.

“If he was to carry any secrets on him, he could have been killed here (in Moscow) - calmly, quietly - to inject him with a dose and no-one would have ever heard of it.

“Secondly, and this is the main moment: who benefits from it?

Top Soviet spy Lyubimov has hit out at allegations that the Kremlin was behind the supposed poisoning of Skripal
“You’ve got to be an idiot to suddenly do this right before our presidential elections and in the middle of an horrendous anti-Russian campaign.”

His claims comes after the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the alleged poisoning of Skripal was designed to "complicate UK-Russian relations."

Lyubimov also slammed UK Foreign Secretary Johnson for vowing to sanction Russia and suggesting a boycott of this summer’s World Cup which will be held in Russia.

Lyubimov said: “Boris Johnson’s statement confirms my thought - at a time when is it all still very unclear, already we receive a threat to boycott our football championship, and threats that ‘We’ll be taking measures'.

“We’ve been through this thousand times.”

Lyubimov added: “My conclusion is this: it has been done by Western secret service to splash oil on fire, to get this fire - which started for no single reason - going properly, and to help an attack on our country.”

Asked by a TV interviewer about Vladimir Putin’s threat to punish traitor spies, he said: “I don’t know what Putin was saying.

“He is saying a lot of things.

"But do think logically - to carry out such an operation, what for, why?

“And immediately Boris Johnson intervenes…

“I think if this wasn’t done by Western secret services themselves, then it must have been some kind of Russian gang linked to some Western secret services, I don’t know which ones exactly.

“There are a lot of Russians living in the UK.”

Nothing new. Ex Russian foubke agents have been killed in the UK before. Russia often targets them when they think its necessary. Geo politics at play. Life goes on

Except this guy was released from Russia as part of a spy swap. I think that's new. If the murders are traced back to Russia, why would anyone trust the Russians with a spy swap again?

And Russians are dumb enough to frame themselves in such difficult times? To show themselves as incompetent maniacs? And all this - just to kill a long ago decommissioned defector who poses a zero threat to Russia?

Huh.......what has trust got to do with geo political games world powers indulge in? The U. S/U. K never trusted Russia in the first place, and trust is not really necessary in Geo political rivalries between different powers who have conflicting interests. Each side just tries to further their national interest by all means necessary. Trust is the last thing they take into consideration. Lol

So I don't see anything surprising in the assassination of this ex double agent. Russia has done that before in London with Litvenienko. We will talk about it for a few days and then everybody will forget about it and life will go on, Nothing new. :D

The only thing i will point out is that it was a failure by our intelligence services to thwart this and arrest the suspects(which we could have used as a bargaining chip against the Russians further down the line.lThat's the major takeaway news from this issue, everything else is secondary /irrelevant :)
