New Delhi, Aug.3 (ANI): Former National Security Adviser Brajesh Mishra has accused the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh-led UPA Government of pursuing policies of strategic ineptness.


Addressing participants at the annual Krishnaswamy Subrahmanyam Memorial Lecture, which was organised by the Global India Fndation here, Mishra it seemed as if India still does not have a place in the global order.


"We have two enemies, Pakistan and China, who want to keep us embroiled in South Asia so that we don't look beyond," Mishra said.


Commenting on Washington's AFPAK policy, Mishra said: "We have the same problem like we have with China. Both the United States and China are giving weapens to Pakistan, which could be only used against India. As far as we are mired in South Asia, we will have a limited role to play in the global order."


He described China and Pakistan as not being all weather friends, but miltary allies.


On the prevailing domestic situation, Mishra said: "Today, there is a sense among the middle class of non-governence. Nothing is being done. There is no movement forward. The nuclear deal with the United States is not going anywhere."


Suggesting that India's role in world depended on establishing a presence globally, on economic reforms development and national security, the former national security adviser said that one need only look to what was happening to Indians residing in Australia, or Sikhs living in Milan, Italy, to come to judgment on the government's achievements.


"What is happening to Indians in Australia, or to Sikhs in Milan, Italy. What has happened to Sri Lanka. So much support was given to Sri Lanka when they were supppresing the LTTE, and now, they say it is none of your business. If we continue this way, nobody will bother about India," Mishra warned.


"In Asia, China is making sure that it is the big player in any multilateral forum. It can be dealt with by only strengthening our defence (capability). Our procedures of procuring weapans are 19th century procedures. The UPA Government is carrying Bofors on its soldiers .It is worried only about personal integrity and not national security," added Mishra.


Interestingly, the event was also attended by West Bengal Governor and former national security advisor M.K. Narayanan (2005-2010). (ANI)

Mishra's statements smells of Anti-congress crap. He was the NSA when the kandahar hijack fiasco happened. Can u believe it that the IA plane was allowed to fly away after landing in Amritsar. That was the single biggest failure of India strategically ever. And this guy is lecturing about congress' ineptness. What an irony !

The much talked about second generation economic reforms are not heard of from their lips. Strategically the US India deal hasn't begotten for what it was formed. The Srilankan issue is perfectly true. The only thing this government wants to do is secure its position for next elections.

Look at my state AP the telangana crisis has already eaten into our revenues and many firms are moving out. No new budgets are being released and in future the situation could become even dire. Wherever Congress is there nothing fruitful is happening.

Well its the irony of the political situation in our country. We have to choose between outright opportunists, thieves (aka congress) and bumbling blabbering fools (read BJP). What can anybody do?? Also when did moral high ground exist in politics ever?? Do u think after their colossal ineptitude in running the country if Congress gets into the opposition benches they will keep quiet saying we do not have a moral high ground??

At least it did not kill 175 Indians, mate. For all the indecision that happened, 175 Indian lives were saved then. Not like Congress whereby more than 200 people were killed including a dozen foreigners.

I know that Kandahar was a fiasco, but UPA is a disaster when dealing with national security and strategic assertion.

Corrupt have to be punished. But what if the entire party is evil and corrupt to core like Congress? Do you know how much disaster has been happening in this government? Even die-hard Congress supporting Indians are outraged these days. And you're talking about BJP's disaster? NDA stood tall and aggressive against any external threat when we had HALF the strategic capability of our current abilities and made our threats think twice. While we have tiny no-bodys taking India for hostage under UPA not just this time but since 2005.

Look mate I don't support congress(to a lesser extent) and BJP. The BJP govt. ordered half the india's military to border(2001) only to cower away at the prospect of Nuclear flash out. That being said, we cannot overlook the continued govt's stonewalling of efforts to bring back the black money stashed abroad. I would be amazed if the congress still manages to come back to power after all the endless list of scams.
