Guys i have a serious question for you. How many of you think euthanasia is justified and should be allowed. Or in other words how many of you support it or are against it. What are ur thoughts on it.

No trolling,serious responses apreciated.

I support right of people who are in lot of pain and suffering and have no end in sight, to take their life. However it should be done by professional with enough safeguard in place. For example the person should petition a court which should direct a medical team to look into suitability of it.

Currently many doctors in India allow old people to die so as not to burden their family member. One of my very old relative died recently. I was asking how was the last days, I was told the last time she was sick doctor gave tonnes of medicines, and did medical procedures, and she got cured. This time, doctor responded with, 'ya she will be okey, dont worry', and gave a few ordinary medicines like painkiller(I am guessing), as if doc knew she is going to die, and keeping her alive is good for nobody. The doctor took the moral burden, so to speak.

Lot of people at least in west think, simply being in living state is not enough, quality of life is important.

That is murder - Assuming that the doctor didn't ask them for permission first.

Doctor did not do something to hasten her death, just did not take too much invasive procedure that might have extended her life by a month, probably a year. She was in her eighties. Was bedridden for quite long.

Its a moral dilemma, the doctor did not need to do it. Why should he care, its not his relative suffering, nor his money spent. But he did. I am sure he is a senior doctor who has seen plenty of deaths.

As per Islamic teachings, it is not allowed. If it is with patient's consent, it is suicide, if it is with patient's relatives consent, it is murder.

Oh thats different....I thought you were suggesting that he gave her medicine that hastened her end without her or her loved ones being told what he was doing.

ah..changed the post... lolz.... . BTW the doctor is compassionate not a retard, he wont want to be incriminated by providing wrong medicine because how will he know how family will react?

well , for me i cannot kill anyone actively , but sometimes death is better than life and its better to leave that to the patient and their near and dear ones . cancer is such a situation . In patients suffering from cancer that has extensive bone metastasis pain become unbearable even if the opiates are given in maximum dose, think of it it as if you are skinned alive , in that condition who would want to live long . fighting is only glorious sometimes . i for one would love to die a painless death . terminal cancer isn't a fight you can win even if you bear extreme pain.
its better to die once than bear thousands of death every moment .

Yes ihave heard abt pain killers and sedatives etc failing to work for cancer last stage patients and that pain is too unbearble that medications cant suppress.
Thanks for ur input doc and sharing ur perspective.

Do you to remember recently a 60 something elderly rape victim nurse died who had been in comma for last 3,4 decades, ihad read that since she had been hospitalized for last 30 or so years , so few years back the hospital authorities had raised a question over pulling the plug on her as she had been in vegetative state for over decades and they felt she wont recover, but then the nurses and staff at the hospital protested against it cuz they wanted to take care of her and see her stay alive. So in this case if hosp management had removed her from life support or idont know exactly what it was then how that death wouldhave been classified as? Euthansia? Idont know abt the lady's relatives. The hospital nursing staff was amazing in their compassion towards her. Was very impressive.

Yes suicide part is the thing.

This isnt euthansia , he didnt give her the medication required perhaps. Dont know with his knowledge of medicine what he did was morally correct or not.

People with low self esteem often wish to kill themselves over silly things so if we we make it legal or allow people to end their lives whenever they want without any guilty of sin then we will see plenty of suicide after some failure in exam, failure in love and relationship, illness of few years ..then there will no hope and patience to bear pain and suffering. Hope sustain life

True and i am sure we all read about suffering and patience of hadrat ayub(R.A)
It should be our spirit to fight with disease or some others suffering till the last breathe or moment. I know its difficult to see your dear ones in constant pain daily when there are few chances of survival but what is guarantee that giving them quick death is less painful for them than their natural death?
