A joint statement on Libya released yesterday by the EU High Representative Josep Borrell and Foreign Ministers Jean-Yves Le Drian of France, Heiko Maas of Germany and Luigi Di Maio of Italy supported the Cairo Libya peace initiative, called for an immediate ceasefire, the withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries, and the withdrawal of military equipment supplies in violation of the UN arms embargo.

In the aftermath of the constructive commitments to halt fighting, resume dialogue and reach a ceasefire within the framework of the 5+5 joint military committee, taken in Cairo on 6 June, the High Representative of the EU and the Foreign Ministers of France, Germany and Italy urge all Libyan and International parties to effectively and immediately stop all military operations and engage constructively in the 5+5 negotiations, based upon the draft agreement of 23 February.

These efforts must lead all parties to swiftly agree on a ceasefire agreement in the 5+5 framework, including the withdrawal of all foreign forces, mercenaries and military equipment supplied in violation of the UN arms embargo from all regions of Libya, and to engage constructively in all strands of the UN-led intra-Libyan dialogue in order to pave the way for a comprehensive political agreement in accordance with the parameters agreed upon in Berlin.

Egypt is pretty smart. Bought Rafales and Mistrals from France to secure France's backing. And then bought FREMMs and AW149/189 helicopters to secure Italy's backing.

GNA is on the verge of securing the country town by town, so all of the countries who supported Haftar are calling for ceasefire now. They know their plant is getting routed in the battle-field.

Sirte is a trap. As soon as GNA attacks Sirte that gives Egypt the carte blanche to deploy military to Libya because they say it is Turkey that does not accept UN backed ceasefire. Erdogan is not falling for that trap.

Instead of spending the tens of billions of dollars needed to upgrade Egyptian irrigation practices in light of Ethiopia's Renaissance Dam which will result in dramatically decreased water flows to Egypt Sisi is instead going on a massive borrowing spree to build two new cities and financing a war criminal in Libya when his military junta isn't threatening war on Ethiopia which could have devastating impacts on the Egyptian economy.

I would have thought he'd have learned from his failed involvement in Yemen.

It could be that his losses were so great, defections so large that he's unable to keep hold of anything so resorts to indiscriminate bombing, not surprising from a guy who thinks the only solution to anything is war, and laying booby traps after retreating to slow down advancing GNA forces in hopes of regrouping somewhere else only to have to run again once GNA forces arrive.

I personally think Hafter is finished and his heavy reliance on foreign fighters who aren't going to be as passionate about this war or outcome as he may be as they aren't ideologically driven nor have any real vested interests in the outcome is now proving to be a failed strategy.

Egypt can compromise with a Turkish Libya, it is the intelligent thing to do. However backers KSA and UAE won't allow Egypt to do so. They whole the leash over Sisi.

I hope some common sense prevails in Egypt to stay out of theis conflict.

Iranian involvement is laughable, there is not a single Shia in Libya perhaps. Who are they saving from takfiris?

Egyptians have no choice. Their handlers in KSA and UAE have willfully allowed Ethiopians to go ahead with dams. The whole point is to pacify Egypt and make sure Egypt never rises again as a threat to their dominance over the Arab world.

They applauded the US wars on Iraq for the same reason.

I have nothing but love for fellow Muslims of Egypt and only want to see the best for the Egyptian people.

However Turkey has in no way shape or form threatened Egypt or am I missing something?

What has the GNA done to Egypt?

I'll tell you how this looks from my perspective:

1. Gen. Sisi shares this weird "hate" for the Muslim Brotherhood that Gulf monarchies like those in the UAE and Saudi Arabia seem to have. Perhaps they fear the Muslim Brotherhood's rise in Egypt and a move towards democracy?
   
2. To secure financing for large development projects in the country Gen. Sisi sent good Egyptian men to die in Yemen in a war that the UAE itself abandoned shortly after lambasting Pakistan for not joining in. Now, with tanks moved to the Libyan border, it seems as if he's seeking to invade Libya a country that has done Egypt no harm to deal a blow to the GNA which never threatened Egypt with war.

I've seen multiple articles citing sources from Egypt threatening Turkey and Libya when neither of them have threatened Egypt with harm.

Am I totally off here?

If Turkey's goal was to spread vice then I'd have opposed them but Erdogan is a good leader, he's stood up for Muslims at home and abroad. He was instrumental in eliminating bans on hijabs that prevented Muslim women from teaching in schools, holding public office or being part of the armed forces. He's taken in over 3 Million Arab refugees from Syria and defended who knows how many millions more from Assad's murderous onslaught.

Muslims of Pakistan, India and Bangladesh don't hate Arabs for the Delhi Sultanate so I don't understand why Arabs hate the Turks for the Ottoman Empire. Shouldn't Muslims support each other?
