Ethiopia calls Nile dam filling diplomatic victory

Khartum

its bad about sudan! and thanks to big mouth sissi sudan has to suffer
Not just Sudan, the whole area will suffer due Egypt intransigeance. We may see another biblical exode of inhabitants from Sudan and Egypt fleeing unlivable conditions toward other countries...

with all respect to you, but you are stupid
Egypt still has the Nasr Lake, which would give Egypt plenty of breathing room for negotiations.

He doesn't even know what that word "intransigence" means clearly the way he used it in that sentence and the only reason he's using it is because Shoukry used it to describe Ethiopia's methods of negotiations since the start of all of this 11 years ago LOL. He saw the title of the article with Shoukry's quote and now he's using it on Egyptians lol.

We need international laws for rivers that pass through several countries. Dams should not be built on such rivers unless all countries benefiting from the water of the river agree to such a construction.

Didn't you hear, bro? How dare we fu.......ing Egyptians think that we have any say in the matter!?! Didn't you read all the scum sucking hog hating, dead wishing on the Egyptian people posts in this thread and others, ma man? We all deserve to die because these people don't like us for some friggin reason!? Someone said we're the most racist and arrogant LMFAO people or some crap like that loool. So we deserve to have the Nile dry out on us because that's some idiot's unfounded (and utterly incorrect opinion about Egyptians) I mean, f***k us and Egypt the unworthy scum of the area we should just shut up and take what's coming our way according to these fellas, right? Take a read at some of the hate-filled scuzz that gets posted towards Egypt and Egyptians, it's unreal.

Of course the Ethiopians deserve what they want and what the dam will give them and that's why we've been negotiating with them for 11 years trying to solve these important issues, but they keep playing games with us and we're the bad guys! lol.

Think of it this way, if this was Israel in our place or even the US and these negotiations were going this way, what do you suppose they would've done? I'm guessing the same thing as they did to the Iraqi reactor but we've been holding out on such an extreme measure even though we have that capability as we speak, even without the Su-35s that are coming. But we always look for the diplomatic way first.

Imagine the outlook towards Egypt and Egyptians if we actually went and bombed the ever loving daylights out of that dam LOL?! At least then we'll deserve the hate so maybe we should do it to even out the playing field?

I understand your frustration.

Egypt must have a say in this. This decision will have a huge impact on your environment and it will cost you a lot in terms of agriculture, economy and environmental management. It will affect the lives of many people and it can target your national security, most of all your food security.

Israel is currently stealing water from Jordan and they can't say a thing to Israel because Israel has a stronger army than them. But you are absolutely right that if Israel were in your shoes, they would've responded to it militarily without a second thought. Israelis value water resources greatly. This issue is indeed an important matter that can result in a military conflict.

I strongly believe that issues like this should be handled diplomatically based on international regulations. Otherwise disastrous wars over water resources will happen around the world, particularly in regions like the Middle East and North Africa where water resources are already not enough.

One of the very few, sane, well-informed and non-judgmental posts I've read here in a while.
The Israelis would use something like this as an existential threat which in many ways, it really is and wouldn't be apologetic about its actions one bit. In turn, it would get all the worldly support it would need because it's Israel.

I doubt Egypt would be afforded any of that luxury if it decides on a military solution because it will have to punch a lot more than just the dam in order to make a successful attack. That will get Egypt into a lot more trouble and so it's being very careful to be sure it exhausts every single diplomatic avenue first, despite being played by the Ethiopians but the Egyptian politicians know this is happening and for every time they're being played, there's a check mark made so that when the time comes, it will be a no-brainer to point out how hard we tried and how many times they played with this like it was a joke.

The best time to hit it anyway IMO will be when it's practically full and has all that hydrostatic pressure against it, where a series of hits and cracks will just snowball from the pressure. But who would ever want to do something like that to such a poor country that has the majority of its population using generators to provide electricity to their little dwellings?! It's a terrible thing to consider, but when they deal with such arrogance and lack of common respect and no concern for any consequences, it's hard not to end up speaking that language.

Honestly, once it has been filled up, you won't be able to attack it anymore as any attack that damages the dam can cause floods which will kill thousands of civilians at least and will have severe international consequences for you.

If they filled up the dam, the best option in my opinion would be to try to isolate Ethiopia and raise the costs of having this dam for them through other means. They are a landlocked country after all. How are your relations with their neighbors? Can you make life difficult for them?

I'm willing to bet that is exactly what they're counting on with all the delaying and playing games tactics they're doing now and have been doing for years. In that case, I say "oh well, too bad" because if it's a question of us or them, the answer to that is very easy.

If they filled up the dam, the best option in my opinion would be to try to isolate Ethiopia and raise the costs of having this dam for them through other means. They are a landlocked country after all. How are your relations with their neighbors? Can you make life difficult for them?

Yes, sure, between Eritrea and Sudan and a few other options, but that would take too long and who knows if it would really be effective. Then they'll start looking for allies and we know one that is itching to meddle in our affairs and to mess with us and we can't give them that chance. I think the moment this becomes a complete impasse which will be in the next few months easily, it should be resolved militarily no matter what the political or other consequences are. We've tried everything, my friend. Enough is enough.

but you are stupid

ok and where does that lake get its water out of thin air? @Ceylal

its the same nil water.. but shure you will have some time until it gets worser with the lake buffer

Sudan cant do anything, Expect negotiating with Ethiopia, if Ethiopia keeps denying all negotiations, Sudan would have to start becoming more aggresive with Ethiopia.

Everybody knew some barbarian invaders evicted Africans from native lands and occupied it... At-least now Africans are fighting back.
Ahhh I seeeeee. So your beef is with certain Africans of a certain religious or ethnic orientation.

Why not quit beating around the Bush then and just state who these "barbarians" are. Just so we're all clear.

Either in USA #BLM or this Dam there are atrocities done by barbaric invaders on Africans from 1000's of years. They are fighting back and they save their natural resources which 100% BELONGS TO THEM.
