Turkey isn't radical now, so a Coup would have only went towards tyranny. Coups usually turn out to be opposite of what the Government is. Then there's coups that turn into an eagles nest, where tyrants are overthrown by other tyrants.
Radicalism and tyranny is two different things.
To gave an example, you are completely confortable with Sisi than Morsi in Egypt.
The world will be superphucked.
Okay, let's break it down some more.
Now; in Turkey. We are certain of some things, i'm not saying these but government, opposition parties, ex-generals, citizens, journalists, etc.....literally everybody in Turkey.
1-) Coup has been done by a faction that has been infiltrated in the military.
2-) Gülen Organization is behind the coup. The faction within the military whom tried the coup are also Gülenists, but besides that they have arms in every governmental institute.
The thing we are not exactly sure (i mean %100) is the involvement of the US government. Stratfor showing presidents plane on twitter, US harboring Gülen, US not handing over Gülen. US generals visiting Turkey before the coup. 15 US based academics (on international relations), arriving on an Island near to Istanbul and holding a seminar at the coup night.
There is serious belief in Turkey that US/CIA was the mastermind and via Gülenists they would want to control Turkey.
Personally, yes. Global wise, they are being set it to be overthrown, destroyed, or abandoned.
Yet still they are one of your greatest ally in ME....despite they are severing heads with swords and being ruled in monarchical system.
When it comes to ground, US doesn't care for democracy or human rights, etc..... be it Egypt, Saudi Arabia or the secterian ex-PM of Iraq, El Maliki. Only thing is if their government act according to US interests or not. (I'm not blaming you on these countries.)
