What's new

Electricity agreements reached during Nawaz Sharif's tenure became shackles around Pakistan's neck, says Kamran Khan

It both PTI and PMLN fault.

PMLN did not see the projects and was amazingly to fast and PTI delayed CPEC from the start of the year, which impact FDI, investments, projects and secondary investment.

PTI was clueless and another Imran khan statement that i have 200 finance team ready for Pakistan, which turned out to much worse than Isaq Dar.

Imran Khan is man with Speech but without any plan. He has no plan is fact that Pakistan has to deal with otherwise he would not have hired a person who has made worst bank ever in Pakistan ,which is Silk Bank and Union Bank.
Indeed its PTI fault that PMLN gave such high ROI deals
Also PTI fault that rupee devalued to 170/70% devaluation that will lead to 70% inflation(20%/yr)

Its also PTI fault that COVID came ..also PTI fault that global inflation is at 6% including in USA

Go open a account in Silk Bank or Union Bank if you have guts and do not talk if your self cannot support stupidity.

.
Finally its PTI fault that three major hydro dams all of who were stuck were started for the first time on public money rather than 20 ROI based expensive tarrif

Its PTI fault that private hydro projects of PMLN era will cost 8cents(14 rupees)
Go open a account in Silk Bank or Union Bank if you have guts and do not talk if your self cannot support stupidity.
I am stupid because the only way i can win an argument with an idiot is to become an idiot :big_boss:

Let's start by leaving aside party politics and looking at this objectively. The NS government signed these agreements under the assumption that dollar rate will be kept artificially low. There is even a possibility that some corrupt person was gleefully rubbing his hand thinking he has forced any future government to keep the dollar artificially low.

Then along came the IK government with superficial knowledge of macroeconomics. They have learnt the single lesson 'Currency should be left to float freely' without considering the full impact of the decision. One part of this problem is the lack of capability in Ministry of Finance and State Bank. If these institutions were well managed, there would be mathematical models available, that take into account all liabilities faced by Pakistan, and the decision to freely float the rupee could have been stress tested against these models. As things stand, there is grand mismanagement in Pakistan into which the incompetent IK government has been thrown and decisions are being made haphazardly by amateurs.

Let us be very clear. Two billion dollars is nothing for even a moderately successful economy. You don't have to be a trillion dollar economy to pay two billion dollars in return for electricity production. The problem is, these agreements assume that electricity production will be immediately followed by economic activity which will lead to enough revenue generation for the government that it will be able to easily make the payments. And that was the next phase of CPEC.

Which then raises the question: why has the IK government dilly dallied on next phases of CPEC for three years? They kept stalling the work during initial phase of the government at the behest of Western masters, and now they are trying to create a divide between China and Pakistan. And Bajwa is complicit by being a silent spectator in this grand treason against Pakistan's vested interests. Meanwhile, after these stalling tactics, Chinese investors are also frustrated and are not interested to carry on further work.

I have a question how does this factor into everything that is happening at present? with the economy!
Lots of our PDF members were extremely upset when Imran Khan cabinet talk about CPEC project audits and look deep into all contract details ..... another Orange train sucks a massive budget, on top govt has to subsidize the project to make it functional.

Yes that was the disaster. Until there Imran Khan there than you can expect there will be no major investment Chinese now.

Major Investment of Imran Khan is only 100 million right now.

Honesty does not give Intelligence and that is the hardest lesson Pakistan learned in this 3.5 years.

Still how come rate of return in dollars be 20 percent of the original investment?

In order to answer that question, we need to see similar agreements in other countries. I am too lazy to do a search right now. Would you like to do the honors?
