After waiting for more than six hours for U.S. Secretary of State, both presidential candidates and the head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) to address the nation, the electoral deadlock has been broken when the men announced that an agreement has been reached during the late night press conference on Saturday.

Secretary of State John Kerry said that both candidates have reached a common ground in negotiations saying that "both are determined that the votes of the people of Afghanistan are counted."

The terms of negotiations were that 100 percent of the votes will be audited; all 8.1 million votes.
Ballot boxes from other provinces will be transferred by the International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) and Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF). The audits will be supervised by the UN and the candidates' agents.

Who you got winning the recount?

Whom are people supporting the most? I hope Ghani wins the recount and Abdullah accepts it. @Sher Malang

For Afghanistan it should be Ghani. He is educated, well known throughout the world and brings maturity and more importantly a lack of history/baggage that Abdullah has.

For Pakistan ironically it is Ghani as well. Ghani has stated his intention to work with Pakistan very closely and wants strong trade, cultural and defence links.

I just want the Taliban gone on both sides. It's high time to build nations and civilisation.

Ghani will indeed win the recount as it is not going to change much. Ghani got a 1.1 million lead, and this recount process in itself is nothing more than a political maneuver, so Abdullah x2 won't loss his face when he must accept his defeat.

No sure for the defence ties, as Ghani hasn't discussed the military in his campaign, although peace with the Taliban seems to be on high priority.
Defence ties between Af-Pak is actually very big already today, and Afghan officers plus generals often lays a visit to Pakistan, the only thing that is hampering its further development is those seasonal border disputes between our two countries.

Ashraf Ghani has a clear lead, even when we look at the Afghan demographics. Ashraf Ghani got almost all Pashtun and Uzbek votes, and alone these two groups are enough to win an election in Afghanistan.

Nice. I wish the very best for both of us.

doesn't matter who wins. Both candidates are impressive. It is more important that the winner achieves it peacefully , the opposition accepts it and democracy continues in Afghanistan unabated.
