T. Suvarna Raju, Director (Design & Development) of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd speaking to media spilled the beans that ongoing Collaboration with Israel to develop Improved AESA radar based on ELTA’s developed LM-2052 – Active Electronic Scan Array Airborne Fire Control Radar will also be used on fighter jets of Indian Air force.

Improved EL/M-2052 active electronically scanned array radar will be used on Tejas MK-1A aircraft and will also be used in IAF’s Jaguar Darin III upgraded jets.

T. Suvarna Raju also hinted that IAF’s Mirage-2000 fleet might be upgraded with new fire control Aesa radar and currently talks are been held with IAF to use new radar possibly on other jets too.

ELM-2052 is an advanced Fire Control Radar (FCR) designed for air-to-air superiority and strike missions, based on fully solid-state Active Electronically Scanning Array (AESA) technology, enabling the radar to achieve long detection ranges, high mission reliability, and multi-target tracking capabilities.

The modular design weighs 130-180kg (286-397lb) and consumes 4-10kVA, depending on the design configuration, and has built-in growth potential. Radar can detect and track up to 64 airborne targets from long range, and enable a pilot to engage several simultaneously using air-to-air missiles, IAI says. The sensor can also provide long-range target detection, classification, and tracking in the anti-ship role.

What a bunch of idiots in HAL and what kind of crappy yellow journalism is this first they should have intigrated it in current under development LCA MK1A then start boasting about other fighter platforms .

It certainly is a welcoming news, but I'm now much more interested in Russia's new Radio-optical phased array radar. This Photonic radar is futuristic.

I would love to see India get their hands on this tech.

.
The big boost would be once Su-30MKI and Mig-29UPG/K/KUB are Upgraded with AESA and newer Long range AMRAAM- Su-30MKI with Western/Israeli AESA and Meteor type longrange ALRAAM-

As always confusing as hell.

We are paying a leg for Mirage 2000 upgrades and the program has just begun and will last some 7 years.

Then where is this news suddenly coming from?

Only yesterday there news barak 8 will go to Delhi class destroyers, couple of weeks ago news that shtil VLS will be installed on Delhi class.

What to make of all of this??? @Abingdonboy

Russians make a lot of noise on any tech- much before development- I remember how plasma stealth was hyped and a decade has passed without much breakthrough-

GaN transistors are the next phase in AESA radar development TRMMs based on GaN transistor will enable much lighter and powerful radar leaving better space for other sensors like IRST, Optical Search and Track, far-far more targets being tracked, EW etc-

Thats what is called throwing money in drain- those who are responsible should be punished for such waste- Air Force gets more money from Navy in Defense Budget and they are wasting It like this- now wonder they are poorly equipped and falling in strength day by day-

Apart from tejas mk1p, only jaguar platform is left where Elta radars can be fitted.

Russian , French platforms not possible without their consent.
Where they will offer their radar only.

Considering UTtAm development , we have to give some platform for it too ..

Now comes Israeli offer of GaN AESA radar.
I am not sure which platform can we install it ? AMCA ?

So new reason for iaf tobreject LCA

Ironic that Israeli's already transferred technology for the ELM-2052 radar to the Chinese, and its Chinese version is one of the three AESA radars (two Chinese & one Western) under consideration for the JF-17 Blk-3.

Chinese Firm Claims To Offer Israeli AESA Radar
Chinese Radar Strongly Resembles Israeli Product

Doesn't seem like a wise decision by InAF to opt for this particular radar on 3 platforms when its technology is already transferred/ leaked. Vise versa if MK-2 flies before the Blk-3 then PAF should choose the alternative AESA.

Also another issue HAL would have more problems, the ELM-2032 on the current Tejas is 100KG with 3KVA power, the ELM 2052 is 180KG with 10KVA power. HAL already has promised to shed net 1000KG on the MK-2 plus the added power requirements on aircraft power system. HAL has big issues to work with that can cause potential delays..

Mere speculation of the conspiracy theories Elta 2052 incorporated US technology that's why it was barred from selling to both India and china

US stand on india has soften in don't think same for China.
Israelis won't against US that's sure thing
